G35 or TL?

I'm looking for something around $16-18k, under 60k miles. Negotiable prices.

For the Infiniti, I would like an 05 or higher, preferably a 6MT Coupe. I would be okay with an 04, but I don't want an 03 as that was the first generation car and it had some known issues (unless with an epic good deal 😉). The 05+ have a better interior, thats why I would prefer it.

Acura TL, 05+. 6MT would be preferred. If its a 07 TYPE-S, then an Auto would be okay. The TL's with 6MT package have better brakes (Brembos) and suspension. 😛

Could I get a decent 07 TYPE-S for 18k? I saw one at a local dealer for 25k. (38k miles, 1 Owner). Would it be possible to convince the dealer to sell for 18k? Because 25k is M3 money. Same thing with the Infiniti, would it be possible?

If anyone has any recommendations of other used cars in the above price range/mileage, please include in your reply. If you haven't noticed, I'm looking for something with performance and luxury. But I can sacrifice some of the luxury for more performance, no problem with that at all. Please consider that if your making a recommendation for another car.

Thank you very much! 🙂

TL-S is nice, but it's not really in the same league as the G35 6MT Coupe. It's FWD and although I prefer the TL interior/NAV/Audio/seats/noise insulation, the G35 6MT Coupe is just a sportier, faster, more fun ride.

I'd get the TL. The G is faster and more "fun" when you want it, but the TL is a nicer ride for commuting.

From what I've seen (I was looking at TL's a little while ago), not even close. The cheapest one I saw in my area was 25k, and they went up from there.

Good God... you can get a 05-07ish G35 or TL with decent mileage for 16-18k? Suddenly I don't feel so great for buying my 2008 Fusion V6 for 14k.

Get an '06 G35 if you can spring for it.. small upgrades over the '05 such as projector headlights, revised rear tail lights, and the 6MTs have a better looking front fascia.

I'd avoid the '03-'04.. the '05+ interior is so much better.

I picked up my '05 last April for like 18xxx before TTL. Had like 34k miles. Upgraded to the '06 projectors.. what a world of difference! Simple swap too. 🙂

im currently in the market and mainly looking for a G35x. 05 with high mileage can probably be had for 16k, not the 06 and 07. decent mileage 06 is 18 and 07 is at least 20+. I tried the 07 and it is a much nicer car inside and out. the design of interior is far ahead of the 06. I am undecided at this point, for the price I might as well go for a used TL which it might be easier to maintain.

well i was told the TL engine can run non-synthetic oil while the nissan has to run synthetic, so I think it's built to a higher tolerance.

Another vote for the G35. I used to have a 2003 and loved it. I now have a G37 coupe which is pretty damn awesome especially in DS mode.

You might want to research the oil consumption issues (OCI) with the 05+ G35 6mt, it kept me from buying one.

Why would that stop you from buying one? Afraid to open the hood?

Both my cars burn oil, it really means nothing. Open hood once every 2 weeks, add oil as (if) necessary. Longevity is no different either... It's just oil consumption.

I have a 2006 TL and I like it, but you sound like you are looking for the best performance so go with the G35. For me, the compromise of having FWD is balanced out by better interior space. You clearly want the 6MT G35 Coupe, so buy it. It's a good car.

Have you read about it?

Many of the motors are burning 2 quarts+++ in 3000 miles... We're talking about a $15-20k car here, not a $2000 beater. The (IMO) most concerning issue is that many of the factory replacement motors have also shown this problem.

It is not related to break-in, mileage, etc.. Many people seem to suspect that excessive engine braking causes the initial problem..

This isn't just the 3.5l either, Nissan's 4.5l (google M45 oil consumption) in the M, Q, and FX also have the exact same issue. People on the M45 forums have been unable to find an 06+ with 100k on any motor (whether factory or warranty replacemend), period.

Trust me, I'm not at all afraid of opening any hood. I've done numerous full bike motor rebuilds, ground up restorations and on and on. I am not at all new to mechanical crap, but 'these types' of cars aren't mean to be worked on every weekend or whatever..

These are supposed to be reliable daily drivers that you buy and will last 200k miles with minimal repairs.

I'm not saying a G won't last that long, but if you are specifically looking for an 05+ 6mt then you should absolutely read up on it to form your own opinion.

I read about it, debated it...bought one. I figured one of two things would happen. 1. If it was burning oil like crazy, it wouldve been hard to last to 35k miles. 2. I'll drive it like crazy the first week or two, and see how it goes.

Either way, mine doesn't burn a drop. Compared to the amount of G35's on the road, I think the affected people are relatively small.

Kind of off topic: But can you actually install a stereo system in a G35? I love them, but I've heard it's a royal pain in the ass to install a head unit into...
