it really depends on the game and settings...

if you can pay another $20 you should probably get the Athlon X4 750K.

Do you already have the 7750?
I ask as the deals on the 7770 and 7790 make the 7750 over priced compared to them.

The G2020 is Ivy based so its pretty good for a starter CPU.
You live near a microcenter?

Sadly, this misconception continues, and on a respected tech forum of all places. 4 thread is minimum for modern games, and I'm not gonna debate it again.

To answer your question, my opinion is no. Pentium with a 7750 will still be faster than any apu without a discrete card. The Pentium is fine for older games, but has stuttering issues in newer highly multi threaded games.

That said, I would agree with the poster who suggested moving up to an x4 750, or even an Fx 6300.
I also agree that the 7750 is overpriced and its main advantage is that it requires no external power connector. If you have a decent power supply, as already stated, 7770 or 7790 gives better performance for not much more money.

I haven't bought the CPU neither the GPU. I was planning to get this combo. My budget for CPU+GPU is around 200$.

I will be playing games life BF3, Farcry series, Assasin Creed series, Crysis etc. Currently i have a very old monitor which just support max 1024x768 resolution. I will be upgrading to new monitor later. But just for now i need a CPU and GPU.

I would really suggest getting a CPU with 4 threads. Either an i3, or an AMD x4. BF3 is nearly unplayable in multiplayer with a dual threaded CPU. An i3 does pretty decent as long as you only play 32 player or smaller games.

A 7750 will play it fine at 1024x768. No issues there.

How about a AMD 6300 for $120(newegg) plus a used 7770 for $70ish used here in the F/S section?

That would help since some of the games you listed can use more than 2 cores well.

How many threads on this are you going to make? Go to General Hardware and fill out the sticky. VC&G and CPU&OC can't do builds to save their lives, so just ignore them.
Once your build has been vetted by mfenn, it's good to go.

60+ fps in nearly every game is not suitable for you?

To expand, Tom's Hardware has this to say from their 18 CPU shootout:

The Pentium isn't bad, to be sure. In fact, for $70, it still does really well against the FX chips we tested that cost $125 and up, use quite a bit of power, and generate significantly more heat. Nevertheless, we see the trend toward more threaded titles continuing, compelling us to start distancing ourselves from dual-core non-Hyper-Threaded CPUs in 2013. At least for the time being, whatever quad-core Athlon II and Phenom II processors that are still available seem like smart buys.

And here's their gaming chart with the Pentium as baseline:

Average.png

Furthermore, the Ahtlon II X4 has come from behind and is their new recommended budget gaming CPU, usurping the Pentium which has held the honor for a while:

With modern games often able to take advantage of more than two processing cores, AMD's old quad-core chips (like the Athlon II X4 and Llano-based A6 and A8 APUs) look better now compared to Intel's dual-core models than they did before. As a result, I cut the Pentium G860 from our recommendation list.

I can only hope Anandtech forum members stop dishing out bad advice soon, it's embarrassing that it still continues to this day.

AnonymouseUser, the chart only proves my point. Processors that are considered 'good' for games are only 120-130% compared to G860. And G2020 is 10% better than it is. I believe G2020 is a good gaming CPU. Particularly for games that utilize 2 cores. It's a strong dual-core CPU and it I would argue that it is actually better in games than some of the CPUs in that chart.
Also, 7750 will always bottleneck before G2020. Another proof that it's a good low-medium range gaming CPU. For example, I have a G860 and 7790 and 7790 will always bottleneck before G860 will...
Sorry if my words appear harsh. It's a hot topic for me, I mean no disrespect! :D

I agree with you. I also don't see how anonymous interprets that quote from Toms as saying that the Pentium is unsuitable for gaming. It says quite the opposite to me.

As I said I would think the athlon x4 would be a better choice, but for low end gaming with a 7750, a Pentium should be adequate, and the gpu would definitely be the limiting factor.

The sad thing is that the stuttering that occurs with dual-core cpus is not reflected in those charts. Continue to offer bad advice as much as you wish, I certainly won't.

EDIT>> You'll also notice those tests are GPU limited, except with the Pentium, 2- and 3-core AMD CPUs, which are GPU and CPU limited. So that "only 20%" difference is even more telling than you seem to grasp.

Personally, I had encountered more stuttering with A8-3870K for some reason. It just felt slower than my current PC and I had the same maintenance habits as I do now.

Then something else was wrong with the system. There is no way a dual threaded, non-turbo, CPU is going to out perform a quad core CPU in current games.

The pentium *may* be faster in single threaded, and maybe dual threaded games. But no modern games are only dual threaded. And no I do not consider SC2/WoW to be modern.

The OP specifically states he wants to play BF3 and FC3. BF3 will peg a 4.5GHz 2500K if you have a fast enough GPU. FC3 is also fully quad core aware.

I can get the i3-3210 but then i have to go for 6670 1GB GDDR5(*budget*). I wont be playing multiplayer at all. Will the 6670 be enough for 1024*768?

I play just fine with a Sandy bridge pentium G850 2.9 and a 7750 BF3 32 player maps medium to ultra on some settings, people are exaggerating.

Tough call for me, but I think I'd go for the Pentium + 7770. Certainly, you're going to have some bottlenecks from the dual core, but anything less than a 7770 probably isn't worth buying at this point if you intend to game. Save your pennies and down the road, sell that 2020 and get yourself a used quad.
