Vertex 2 is SF-1200 and so is the Phoenix Pro. Same drive for the most part, except G.Skill must be doing something different (right). They don't have near the percentage of failure that the Vertex 2 does from what I have read.

What is that based on? It could simply be that OCZ has a higher sales volume, which wouldn't be too hard to believe.

As I said earlier, they don't have the same controller:
The Vertex 2 uses an SF-1200SE controller instead of the standard SF-1200. That may be the source of the problems that the OCZ drives are having.
does that mean the Phoenix is only equivilent to the agility series?

I bit last night; hoping not to have any problems. This will be my first ssd:biggrin:
The Phoenix Pro isn't available for comparison on the Anandtech Bench, so I substituted a Corsair Force F100, which should be nearly identical in performance to the Phoenix Pro. Here is a comparison of the Corsair Force F100 (SF-1200) with a Vertex 2 (SF-1200SE), and here is the same drive compared to an Agility 2. As the comparisons show, the difference between the F100 and the Vertex 2 are negligible, while the F100 is quite a bit faster than the Agility 2 in 4k-aligned random writes. I believe that the Agility 2 was purposefully gimped in this area in order to justify the Vertex 2's higher price tag.

IMO OCZ has quality issues with everything they do. SSDs, Memory, Power Supplies....I'll pass on all of it. I read way more bad than good about that company.

I've installed a bunch of these at work. They're awesome. Fast boot times, fast app loading, and improves overall system responsiveness, especially if memory gets maxed out - virtual memory is pretty dang quick with an SSD. Can't wait till the 400GB models get cheap!

The 240GB model is already down to $519. Yesterday it was $535. A few weeks ago it was almost $700. Ever since the SF-2000 chipset got announced (only 3 months away!), prices have been falling, which is really great news for the rest of us. Link to the 240GB:

SSD prices are finally starting to slip off the plateau. Long may they slide!

Various forum posts and of course Newegg's reviews. I know this isn't concrete evidence and I am sure you are correct. OCZ probably does have a sales volume far exceeding that of G.Skill.

If you want the Vertex 2, get the Vertex 2. I am sure it is a good drive. My intention was not to spread misinformation.

I can't argue with that. I don't trust their stuff either.
