It's usually $105-107. Started turning off my PC when I am sleeping, and at work. Bill is $83 this month.

FYI: Make more money and 25 bucks wont matter to you.
Also, that 25 bucks does a lot more for the economy than you might know.

I used to keep mine on 24/7, but now, living in South Florida I'll save the electricity and extra heat it generates. I'll use that cash to keep my AC pumping away. :p

I just put it to sleep. Very little power consumption, and no need to wait for a reboot.

hehe, well I'd like to think it would make that much difference, but seeing as how my total Electric Bill is $35/month, I think you did more than just turn off your PC. Your Rates, I suppose, could be much higher than mine.

I always put mine to sleep at night and when I am out of the house... Waste of resources to do otherwise.

Must be something else in there. 500 watts 24hrs for 30 days is $36 at 10c/kw. And I think 500w is pretty high for a computer and monitor

35/month electric bill.. I'm jealous. 2 months ago was 140, last month I got it down to 110.

Yeah I wonder about the rates too. Our bill is usually 40 bucks and thats 2 TVs, a chest freezer, refrigerator, 2 PCs, etc etc.

The dumbest comment I've seen in a while on the internet. Congratulations.

I don't think giving it to electric companies is terribly stimulating to the economy. It'd be better to put that money towards any number of other things, such as ponying up for better food, buying clothes, gym memberships (or pickup a stationary bike or treadmill for cheap used).

Another thing is to get rid of mini-fridges and other appliances you don't need/use (at least unplug them). Don't leave in AC adapters that you don't use plugged in either. Actually there's a bunch of stuff that it would make sense to buy a power strip so you can just switch it off instead of unplugging a bunch of things.

My next PC I want to look into undervolting and getting it setup for sleep and hibernate much easier. I always had issues doing this with XP, but I know Win7 should be much better, especially paired with a SSD.

A PC can consume 150-200W (tower only, not including the monitor), at least based on some informal testing I did awhile ago.

* 24 = 3.6 - 4.8KWH per day.
* 30 = 108 - 144KWH per month

US average is $0.1196/KWH
$12.9168 - $17.2224 per month to have a PC running 24/7.

The lowest on the chart is West Virginia, at $0.0787/KWH. Highest is Hawaii, at $0.2299/KWH.

Heh, I'm pulling about 1300W from the wall right now with PCs at full load, and they run 24/7 :p

three quad core machines, two DP dual core Xeon LV systems, two GTX260s, and a 4870. One rig (primary) is watercooled.

That's about $45 a month here.

I think it was supposed to be funny, it was just a fairly big failure.

My Apt is small, just over 500sq/ft. So that makes a difference. Especially if you're in a house.

Not only turn off your pc but also your power strip if you're using one to connect all of your pc related stuff. Using a Killawatt, I discovered even with everything off but the power strip on, it was still pulling 35w.

Hmm, that's half(ish) my Bill.

Our house is 1770 sq/ft. Still only ~$40/month. :)
