Question (FYI), GTX 1660 Super available on Newegg for $800

I figured many of you are in need of a GPU, so thought I'd be a good forum guy and throw you a bone. If you hurry you can get one right now on Newegg for $800 and on Ebay they've sold for $5-700, so you might get really lucky there.

I got someone who sent me a threatening, profanity laced email through the Craigslist relay. Promised if I didn't remove my 5700xt listing (don't PM me unless you are mining, really) that he was going to track me down and harass me until I gave it to him for free.

Listing is still up. If I don't get what I want I have zero issues keeping it, it's a solid card.

Anyway, or you can buy a whole Omen prebuilt and shuck it for the goodies starting at ~$900. Dell XPS on the regular for ~$700 with a 1660Ti or Super, depending on the week.

I am waiting to shuck for either a 6800/6800xt paired with a 5600x/5800x, personally. I know it might be a wait but that's fine.

Can't promise I won't buckle if there is a good 11th gen/3080/3070 deal though, but that's also at least a month out.

FWIW, I've got a GTX 1660 Super coming that I paid $349 for @ Newegg. I even consider that a "high" price. (My other 1660 Super is only making $1.50-$2 / day.)

A trend I have been seeing on ebay lately is 3060 Ti for £20, then £700 more when collecting (no delivery) or 5700 with same but £650 on collection. They're desperate to get those low buy it now prices for visibility.

1660's here in the UK are going for the MSRP of a 6800.

When things are back to normal and before the next calamity hits, I'm stocking up on cheap mid range GPUs. I'll be the richest guy ever. Since crypto seems to slam us every few years, even a 3 year old card delivers a smooth ganking to the wallet of the unprepared.

Ouch, I'd only charge $500 if someone wanted mine. Don't even care about PC gaming now that I have a PS5.

If you aren't using it I'd honestly sell it. You'll never get that kind of money for it again and if you're content gaming on the PS5 for now having $500+ in the future to put towards a new GPU will probably net you a hefty upgrade. That's basically like trading it for a 3070 once prices get back to normal.

It's true... the people who make the REAL money during a gold rush are the folks selling the picks and shovels.

Of course, crypto is supposed to be moving to proof of stake instead of proof of work (mining) for new coin production, so that investment might not pan out.

I think that is projected to happen in Q6 of 2025 atm.

That will kill GPU mining and maybe take ETH with it. At this point, what's the rush (if your the developers & maintainers of ETH)?

That's hardly a good metric when 4 year old 1080 Ti's are also selling for what they cost and two year old 5700 XT's are selling for 50-100% more than the original MSRP.

I managed to get a new one from Memory Express for $329 CAD ($249USD) last week which is almost reasonable. It's still $10 more than what my son paid for his back in May 2020. They've since jacked the price up to $369 CAD, and his MSI card is now up to $410 CAD. Still, that same card is selling for around $600 CAD used on EBay. Nothing is really shocking anymore...

Haha, I have no idea. But, reading threads on this specifying the 3070 when ordering might get you a back order status until at least April (people with early Feb orders have been getting these) AND HP will charge you 15% to cancel your Omen order! How great is that?

I hesitated on 2080Ti with a Kraken installed on it in our very own FS/FT forum for $450 shipped last fall. I don't know why, but my cousin was (and now still is) desperate for an upgrade from a 1060 3GB that paid like $350 for back in the last mining boom. Sigh. That would have been epic.

Ouch. Some people, if they just happen to fall into that range of buying periods, where they are "off cycle" (buying during the mining booms, rather than the busts), are just simply going to get screwed in the market looking for a GPU. Unless they can find *that* needle in a haystack, and get a new-ish GPU at roughly MSRP. (Or use a bot, I guess.)

Waiting for Ampere was a huge mistake (in retrospect). A 2060S for like $400 would have been a huge upgrade he could have made a year (or more ago). Right when cheap 2060/2070 cards were supposed to be available Eth/BTC went nuts, COVID was here and it all went to crap and his plan blew up. I tried to land some of the ~$400 2070S/2080/2080S that were on local marketplaces but they got snapped up stupid fast.

Yeah, if you conveniently forget that those 1080's haven't been a top shelf GPU for the past two years, the 2080Ti has. My point wasn't about return on investment alone, it was about having top tier performance all along and it costing nothing. Hell I sold my 1070 for a tidy profit.

I bet you anything that many retailers are simply taking them for themselves or selling them straight to miners at inflated prices, not even letting the cards hit the shelves. That's free market. They can do whatever they want to make as much money as possible. Nvidia should keep all founders cards to themselves and inspect all buyer history and only sell to those with a history of buying normal GPU quantities over the years. If a buyer's name comes up with no history, then no sale. If a buyer's name comes up as having bought 20 GPU's at once, then no sale. They need to do something because the entire gaming industry, both hardware and software, revolve around the GPU and gamers can't get them. The industry will go to hell fast if gamers can't game.

If the mining lock is implemented, I'd look at buying one if I can sell my FTW3 3080 to a miner for what I'd pay for a 3080Ti. Hopefully demand on the Ti card is a little lower than the 3080s.
