FX600-GLN vs ENS-0560G vs OZC powerstream 520

How do the these three psu compare against either other?

From what I have read this is the way I see them:

OZC powerstream 520: most expensive (130-140) high efficiency quiet.
FX600-GLN middle price (117) very high efficiency
ENS-0560G: loud - least efficiency (75%) least expensive (110)

However - that's what I gather from reviews - anyone have an authorative
opinion ?

This post was prompted by G's suggestion of the ENS-0560G (and this link

Your linkage doesn't work. Preview & test your posts 🙂

Efficiency is not the end all in SMPS selection. Some of THE very best hover between 70~74%
and cost>>$200.

OCZ has independent line regulation atm and is made by Topower but soon to be made
by FSP Group. It will offer a little more amperage but lose independent line regulation
when FSP starts providing OCZ.

The Enhance has better build quality than the others. The Fortron is VG though. The OCZ
has gamer's bling that some must have. All three are above average.

In decending order. Enhance, Fortron=OCZ. It would be a tie between Enermax & Enhance,
with the latter getting the nod. imnsho. 😉

If you want silent power, look to Seasonic. The M12 seies will be out soon in the States.

Have fun as I won't jump in this thread again.

Ok thanks. I fixed the link - i didn't realize that anandtech would auto create the link like that.

I guess that's sort of why i'm making redundant posts trying to narrow down my choices (aka the gamer's bling). Some of the reviews are real experts and some are opinionated people with little factual knowledge. As a reader it is hard for me to judge who is who. Obviously those with better verbal skills will come across more authoritative - so i have to judge with little expert knowledge 🙁 Right now i'm leaning towards the Enhance but I would like to find a second link that shows it is the same as the silverstone (since there are no reviews on the Enhance and i don't know if Enhance as a company switches oem but keeps the same model number)

Read jonnyGURU's review of the SS Strider 600W. Enable your PMability, then PM him.
He will assure you they are one in the same. Ever hear of Etasis?? They make the Zeus series
and the 300W passive for Silverstone. Etasis rates right up there with Zippy/Emacs. Never
heard of them either...Betcha 😉

I did read jonny review and i've enabled my pmability. I'll wait a day or two and see if he responds and if not then maybe pm him.

Note that the OCZ is currently about $100 on Monarch if you factor in the rebate. I ordered one yesterday. Newegg's price is much higher for some reason.

Ok I pm johnny. Btw thanks for the comment on the OCZ CP5670. Actually @ newegg it is 101 right now (10$ off due to hot deal and 25$ rebate) .

This comment is for GalvanizedYankee:

I contacted one of the fellows who system was 'blown' up by the silverstone. He said there was an earlier revision in which it was easy to reverse the cable. Silverstone contacted him when they came out with the new revision (which 'fixes' the cables) and offered him a free upgrade for his efforts. So I guess that explains why serveral folks made the same mistake.

Enhance is a better quality power supply, just as efficient, and costs less.

I'm not sure why you think the OCZ is "high efficiency." It's rather mediocre and isn't really any more efficient than the Strider ST60F. In fact, at 300~400W (where most users will be under load) the efficiency of the ST60F was actually better for me.

Ok. Any comments on the Fortron ?

(One of the other reviews listed the OCZ as being nearly 80% but yea from your review it isn't that hot and to be honest I don't like leds and such).

Either PM me or reply to a thread I've responded to (I check my "today" page often.) But not both. 😉 Netiquette 101. 😀

No personal experience w/ that FSP so I'll refrain from comment. But FSP makes good stuff (the AX series is mediocre, but the rest is good) and I've heard good things about the FX.

80%? Only with a 230V input in a 15C room, maybe.

Ok thanks for the comments. Sorry about the netiquette blunder.

Hum -- two more questions:

If i start with one video card is it safe to leave one of the rails with no load or does the psu require that some load be placed on each rail.

How close does the ENS-0560G track the silversotne strider sst-st60f. My understanding is that there has been four revisions of the st60f. The first is rather old but was char. gray. The second was black. The third was the same as the second but included improved cables that couldn't be plugged in the wrong way. The third came ot a week ago and I'm unsure what changes...

Very tolerant of Silverstone to cover a n00b end-user mistake. Your point is that there
are several ppl that can't plug in a toaster first try(other thread). I allways look at the latches
or notches on shells. You will note that the 4pin Molex shells are beveled on the ends.
This dictactes orientation 😉 One only has to look and not force shells into jacks.

You are assuming that the cables with the first revision had proper notches. Yes the cables I have used on power supplies in the past had very obvious orientation. I could not envision how someone could make such a mistake unless the cables were wired incorrectly. However, this fellow claims the first set of cables did not have obvious notches and it was easy to plug them in incorrectly (not sure if it was the end that went into the powersupply or the end that went to the motherboard -- did not ask.

Anyways on to a more important question (repeat but unanswered) if I start out with one graphic card is it safe to leave one of the 12v rails unused or does the psu require some sort of load distribution to function correctly ?

Hum Enhance has a 550W model for 79$ (ENS-0555). I wonder if that is as good as the 600w version minus 50 watts.

Ok Ok. A web search I did showed the .tw and european websites not the usa website.

I.e, i blew it.

btw is it ok to leave one 12v rail unused ?

I seriously doubt the cabling was assembled ass-backwards. As I stated in the other thread
some shells and/or ports are made of thin soft plastic and end-user error can/will happen.

If you can read the spec sheet with some retention 😉 it will be noted the 0555 is 12V
compined at 38A with 42A peak. The 0560 is 42A combined and 45A peak. 4x12=48W.
The 80mm fan can be loud for desktop use. The 24pin does NOT split for 20+4.
The ATX 12V is 8pin only not a 2x4pin ATX 12V.

Johnny:

My build is initially:
1 mother board (probably epox sli)
1 hd
1 optical drive
2 pci cards (sound card and either cheapo scsi or tv tuner)
1 cpu
2gb ram
1 video card (proably 7900gt)
--
Hum then why get a 600w psu. Well I might upgrade to a second video card which (if I did my math correctly) puts me over the limit of a 500w fortron.
--
so in the intial build I would (or could) have 1 12v rail free if the power supply can handle this and then use it on the second graphic card if i ever go that route.

I don't see what rail you're going to have free.

12V1 goes to the CPU. 12V2 goes to PCI-e. 12V3 goes to the mobo and SATA and 12V4 feeds the Molexes.

not sure maybe - probably not. i guess it probably will be eide unless the sata optical drop $50 in the next 3 weeks. Ok I sort of forgot about the optical. Sigh
