You have informed her that she'll be taking a second job to pay for it right?

For $4,200 I'll buy breast implants and go naked at my wedding 😛

Well, with that getup you won't have to pay for the photographers / videographers either...

LOL

I am opposed, on many levels, to young people financing their own expensive wedding. That "special day" will be the biggest rip-off of your lives, and will saddle you with debt for years. But hey, if you want to start your lives together off on the wrong foot, feel free...
not every young couple is poor or will be in debt for years. We had savings for a reason. I will have paid my wedding expeditures off by May... that's about 8 months from when we got married. It's not about age, it's about planning ahead.

I will not go into any sort of debt, whatsoever, for one fvcking day. And I will not pay a lot of a muffler either!

My solution to all of this was to get my girlfriend pregnant and marry her at the justice of the peace.

The drama of an unexpected pregnancy easily distracts everyone, and you can slip a marriage in there without anyone complaining about anything.

Worked for me...

Though now it's seven years on, and I'm starting to hear about a "renewal of vows"... 🙁

Maybe if you knocked her up again? I mean, it worked once.

Sometimes it helps to think about more than just yourself.

And the "one fvcking day" feels like just one day if you are grumpy about it. There are memories that we still have and the good times we had that night with friends and family will always be cherished. How often do people get together like that ?

You may as well just go to city hall and get the papers without doing any kind of ceremony if you don't want to celebrate. That's fine too. On the other hand, if you celebrate, do it in style. Debt means different things to different people. To me, 8 months is hardly debt. 30 years like our mortgage is debt.

I think my entire wedding was under $5K. Also of note, a couple dozen people have commented that it's the best wedding they have been to. Food was good, beer and wine was flowing, and the scenery (overlooking a nice golf course) was beautiful. Her dress was $199, I think.

I would have never gotten married at that time if I had to finance anything, honeymoon included.

I told my g/f that I have $1000 to put towards our wedding. Anything over that and she's paying. 😛

LoL, I'm paying ZERO for my wedding. The total wedding cost is like 5 grand, and 2 grand of that is photography that her parents are paying for. Then again, my mom owns a restaurant where we're having it at, so its at cost, and the rest is covered.

Its just one day.

I purposely rented the most expensive tuxes i could. i figure if she can drop whatever on a dress, then i should look good too

Christ, man, tell her to take some fiscal responsibility. My wife bought a beautiful dress and only cost us about $900. $4200 is insane.

Yea $4000 for something she will wear ONCE in her entire frickin life. When the guy has to pay $80-100 for the rental. This is yet another reason I don't want to ever get married like that. Unless her father can pay for it. Otherwise, we are getting married in Vegas by Elvis and that will be that.

Its just sooo funny hearing about all your bitching about youre forbidding your future fiancee to not spend more than $xx.xx..blah blah blah....
just wait.
Rh71... i argree very much about what you have been saying. I am glad you feel the way you do.

Just you wait... all you guys that say you FORBID your future wives to not have a nice wedding for more than 5k...

Well, the "suit" i'll be wearing costs about 400 bucks, but thats because I'm wearing Army Dress Blues for the cermony.

And I'm not buying it, its a gift.

Nah I've already got as many as I want, besides, do you have any idea how much children cost annually? Wedding-schmedding, let's talk about clothes, private school, extra-curricular activities, medical bills...

😛

If she doesn't choose to keep it you can make some of that cost up. I have agreed with Lola that if she doesn't want to keep her dress after the wedding that we would use the money she gets for selling it to upgrade her diamond.

What's the resale like on a used wedding dress? I thought it was pretty low.

Ours about 10k and I know that people were being honest when they said it was among the best they'd been to. Our idea was to have it nice, but not lengthy. Nobody likes a long fvcking wedding and a bunch of sh*t, so we made it short and sweet, and all parties were the better for it.

Probably VERY low.

Chinese wedding.

Rented out a classy restaurant and gardens. 300 guests. 13-course meal (not buffet). No wedding gifts; the Chinese give cash. We came out about US$2000 ahead (all of which we gave to her family).

I'm not counting the wedding pictures or the albums or the ring... which I paid for... but I never thought to complain about it.
