ROFL you let her spend $4200 on a wedding dress? If Mrsskoorb wanted to spend that on a wedding dress I'd have called the engagement off immediately and told her to never speak to me again. Talk about a fvcking waste of money. Good freaking Lord above us, free us from our sins.

Regardless of what your fiancee told you, you can get a decent wedding dress for $500, or less.

I'm not being sarcastic either: if she spent $4200 of your (hers/yours, same thing) money on a wedding dress I would have called the wedding off, because to me it says something about a woman's total lack of reality in terms of finances, and you'll have to live with that idiocy for the rest of your life.

I've told my GF I want a small, but luxe and lavish wedding. We don't need 400 people. In fact, the smaller the better. Cost isn't an issue, I just don't want a massive wedding.

We'll have a big stag/doe party for family and friends.

Then, a bachelor party with the lads in Vegas. Vegas, baby! Vegas!

wait, arnt you gay?

No, just stylish, well-dressed, and wealthy. You?

LMAO

You're too sexy for your pink shirt, too sexy for your pink shirt, so sexy it hurts.

bwaahahahahhaha, its funny because its true.

BTW, $4200 is expensive, but $400 on a dress is nothing. Nothing. Some of you have no idea how much work that goes into creating these dresses.

I have shoes that cost more than $400.
Nonsense. Plenty of wedding dresses can be had for $400. Sure they won't look like some princess-whore thing, and may not have 45 lbs in fabric, but they serve the purpose.
I am opposed, on many levels, to young people financing their own expensive wedding. That "special day" will be the biggest rip-off of your lives, and will saddle you with debt for years. But hey, if you want to start your lives together off on the wrong foot, feel free...
Of course you're right. So many women are in this idiotic mindframe about weddings, like it will be _the best day of their life_ and damn the consequences of having to pay for it for 10 more years.

Just think - 4200 bucks could buy a kick ass TV that both of you could enjoy every night for the next 10 years, enjoying time with each other, etc.

but no. She chose the 30 minutes. bad mojo.

Not to mention the cost of the inevitable, unavoidable divorce.

I don't think $4200 would have covered our bar tab.

Yes everyone present was an alcoholic. ;)

We all rented as well. Tuxes don't come in handy much, especially after you pack on a solid 30 lbs after the wedding and can never use it again.

Minendo, my friend. The WEDDING is for the bride and her family. It's always been that way. Every woman, no matter if she's a 17 year old virgin or a 55 year old three-time-divorcee going for it again, wants to feel like "The #1 Super Special Princess of Light" on "her special day."

Note the quotes around "her special day." Woman are somehow born with this vucked-up "marriage ceremony gene thing abnormality" that makes them get all cuckoo when it comes to getting married.

Unfortunately, this is part of the deal. You get her for the forseeable future...you also get to pay for the wedding for the next 5 years or so. :D

Congrats to you and I wish you the best. These days, every 1 out of 10 marriages lasts. I hope yours is one of them. :)

Insane.

Weddings in our society are such crocks. Girls are encouraged from ridiculously young ages to dream of that day, & people pay absolutely asinine amounts of money trying to fulfill those dreams.

[EDIT]As usual our misogynist put it much better than I did: "The #1 Super Special Princess of Light." Add the word "Syndrome" after it you'd have a new mental illness.[/EDIT]

IT'S ONE DAY PEOPLE. ONE DAY.

Honeymoon is no different, people drop WAY too much money.

I absolutely refuse to go into debt over a wedding or honeymoon.

Luckily the gf feels the same way.

Funny wedding dress story. My wife's gown was supposed to be between $800 and $1000. So one day she comes home and suddenly she needs to up the dress budget. No way she could find what she wanted that cheap. "OK...how much we talking?" $4000-$5000! :|:|

Sizable argument ensues. $4000 is a bit absurd when you consider that the budget for the ENTIRE recpetion is supposed to be $8000. Now I'm ready and willing to kick in money over and above that, but that much for a dress that, let's face it, will never be worn again is simply absurd. I even pulled the VERY dirty trick of pointing out that as the majority earner in the family by a long shot it was a shite thing for her to frivously spend what really amounts to MY money.
She's crying, I'm fuming, but I tell her whatever you need to do, do, but remember that we've got more important things to waste money on like a house.

Next day....she comes home.
"I have found the most beautiful dress, it's so perfect, so beautiful blah blah blah blah."
How much?
$500! FIVE. HUNDRED. DOLLARS.

Bigass fight, and she ends up spending LESS than was budgeted.
Pass the beer nuts.

about the same amount that my dress cost, although yours, surprisingly, is a little bit more. it sucks... you only wear it one night, so why pay $724823843284848? :( (my parents took care of it, but still, it's a lot of money and i feel for you.)

today, i had my last bridal gown fitting. it's all done... now, just to get married next week
