Surprisingly, although the DC area is loaded with Latinos, I can't think of a Spanish radio station. I'm sure there are a few that I pass over, but we actually have pretty good radio here. 94.7 plays good classic rock all the time, and they aren't a CC station.

why not open another station? owning a radio station is like a license to print money

Haha no. It's not. Radio stations go tits up in droves. In order to keep the senseless masses entertained you have to give away free stuff. You need some other source of cash if you're going to survive the initial two or three years.

be happy you at least had a descent station at one point.... I'm not sure which were/are clearchannel... but they all suck....

I usually just use my cd's..... at least then I can just hit the skip button....

Try tuning 97.9FM. You MAY be able to get WIYY from Baltimore up there, depending on your antenna.

Doesn't clear channel own XM also?

Let me look.
XM Satellite Radio Inc., an emerging force in broadcasting, was incorporated in 1992 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. XM is publicly traded on the NASDAQ exchange since October 5, 1999. XM's founding was prompted by the radio industry's first major technological change since the popularization of FM radio in the 1970s: the creation of a third broadcast medium, transmitted by satellite, now taking its place alongside AM and FM on the radio dial. One of only two companies with a license for this new national audio service, XM has assembled a "dream team" of creative radio professionals and a management team committed to leading the world into the next generation of radio. In 2004, XM transmits over 120 discrete, nationwide radio channels to subscribers throughout the continental U.S. in digital sound from coast to coast.

XM's powerful strategic and equity partners are leaders in their respective industries. These include General Motors, the largest U.S. auto and truck manufacturer; Honda Motors; Clear Channel, the largest U.S. radio station operator.

Our partnerships with GM, Honda, and other auto manufacturers, with leading audio manufacturers such as Delphi, Pioneer, Alpine and Sony, and with electronics retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears and participating Radio Shack franchise dealers favorably position XM Radio within the reach of millions of consumers.

In addition to our corporate headquarters and broadcast facilities in Washington, D.C., XM has broadcast facilities in New York and Nashville, and additional offices in Boca Raton, FL; Southfield, MI; and Yokohama, Japan.

kthx.

Doesn't take too much figuring on this one. CC is 1200 station Corporate owned big donator to the Republican party. Latino's,especially in the Floridia area is becoming thier new base, they could give a crap about young white votes, figure they'll vote Democratic.

After 30 years of being a shock jock CC axed Stern in 6 or 7 markets in Florida. Gee,did CC JUST find out about Stern?? And...it wasn't even Stern who made the "rude" comment it was a caller. CC JUST loved Stern at the start the Iraq invasion,he was all for it. All for it until the evidence poured in that it was an invasion started on nothing but lies. He then became very critical of Bush in a swing State so they dropped his show.

CC is what radio has become,Corporate owned BS with 40 song play lists and commercials out the ass. As a Democrat I'll gladly lay blame where it needs to be layed--Bill Clinton. He created this monster with the telecommunications act of 1996 and look what we have to show for it now.

In most major markets, the entire FM spectrum is in use, so there isn't another frequency to open up a new station on.

well... i wouldn't take donating to the republican party as much of an indicator. corporations and political parties aren't stupid. corporations, in order to show that they're fair, donate according to schedules. incumbents and people in power get more than challengers, all in a big schedule. just so happens that, at the moment, the republicans have a lot of incumbents and people in power, so they get more donations.

but yeah, the telecomm deregulation act of 1996 was a piece of sh!t for radio.

Actually htere is 94.3 "mega " -something or other. It used to be decent years ago, but now it is pure sh!t, and I am hispanic by the way. That "Spanish hip-hop, reggaeton" is urgh....lets say bleeding occurs if I ever listen to it.

As for Arrow 94.7, thir music chocies are always exceptional for a broadcast Radio station. If they were ever to touch it, most of the DC/metro would raise hell; I know I would.

They did that to a station over here in Dallas/Fort Worth. Killed the last remaining rock station that has been around for at least 20 years; used to host block parties and was pretty cool. Then one day on my drive home from work The Eagle turned into Sunny that plays your favorite pop hits from the 60s and 70s. WTF??
We have no real rock station in DFW now. Got two classic rocks channels (granted one of them will play a lot of tunes from the 80s and early 90s) and we got an alternative rock channel - but that's it.

If you open another station, then you'll have one station that is doin poorly (losing money) and you will have a station doing well (making money). This means you'll only break even. Why bother going into business if you're only going to break even? You want to be profitable right? Losing a great rock station sucks, but I can understand why Clear Channel did it.
