Fujitsu MAX 73 GB

While Seagate's 7200.10 series drives aren't bad, I'm looking for something a little faster.

I was thinking of one of the Fujitsu MAX series drives.

We have them at work, and the noise isn't objectionable - in fact, the idle noise is really very quiet indeed, although seeking is pretty loud (not the ice in a blender noise from some of their earlier drives).

But I was thinking of practicalities such as heat and power?

How essential is active cooling? While I do have a fan in the drive bay, my Seagate still gets to 40 C - so do you reckon I'd have to upgrade the cooling?

What about power? Presumably it's a standard SATA connection.

The only Fujitsu MAX drives I can find are SCSI. With this drive, you are going to have to have a SCSI controller, either onboard or add-in. As far as heat & power, do you have a model number for the drive you are interested in? You can look up the specs for the hd on Fujitsu's website.

I was thinking of a MAX3073RC, although it looks as though it has now been superseded by the MBA3073RC (although I've not seen this one available anywhere).

Keep in mind that SAS drives won't work on an SATA controller. If you're looking for an affordable SAS controller you might check out the Promise FastTrak TX2650, they're $56+ship on eWiz.
