Is $549 the final price?

We got some new information about the soon to launch Radeon R9 290X. The card that is supposed to launch tomorrow, October 24th in the US and on the 25th in most parts of Europe. There is a time difference of 9 hours between Pacific Time and Central European time. The Radeon R290X based on AMD’s new Hawaii chip and it should be selling later on the 24th in the US in etail and select retailers for $549 + tax, which sounds quite amazing for a card that can run faster than the Geforce GTX 780 and in Uber mode can even outrun the Titan selected games. EU listings point to €649 including VAT, which sounds about right. Its main competitor, the GTX 780, has an MSRP of $649, but Asus has cards listed for as little as $535.

Where are the 780's for $535, I'm thinking they meant $635, or possibly 290x at $535.

This will be a great card for $550 now that titan (and somewhat the 780) has shocked the market with it's absurd pricing. Funny how the 7970 was called too expensive, I doubt this card will be given this generations price gouging.

Good news indeed. I'm very happy that AMD chose the right price this time around, as they did with the launch 5870.

This cannot be right! I have been informed by the forum members here this card will cost at least $900.

I'm a little unsure about $550. The person I hear pricing from early told me it was going to be $600 and they have not been wrong yet. If it is $550 that is pretty crazy. May be $550 for reference, $600 for aftermarket. If the plain R9 290 is $400-$450 I wouldn't mind getting one to replace the 7950 in the other computer here.

Guys, this is just a rumor at this point. I'm hoping it is true because I'm looking to upgrade and I'd probably up my budget and go for the 290X if it comes in at $550.

I'm sure they've considered $600+, especially with NV's out of control pricing. This source (as well as everything unofficial) has to be taken with a grain of salt, however it's getting close enough where someone may have the final price information.

I suspect $550 and $450, the same as the 7970/50 pricing and then they come off appearing as the better price scheme. Such irony after the 7970 and titan releases. ;)

I'm sure this is in the ballpark whereas the links being spammed from the foreign countries are way out there. I could be wrong though.

We just need to see the performance now to garner if this is a good price, or a great price. ;)

My question, is the NDA on the NDA date lifted? LOL? In other words can we expect benchmarks tonight at midnight or what.

Maybe $600 was BF4 edition?

$550 would be pretty great. I don't think it will end up that cheap though. $600 sounds more likely, which is still good compared to gtx780 pricing and performance.

I think the 290 vanilla could be a huge card if they price it at $399. That's a gap right now for a lot of GPUs, and is a lot more palatable for folks vs. $600+.

If the 290x is $549, that will definitely pressure NV to both price the 780 'aggresively' and likely have the 780Ti price stay under $600 to keep pace.

I don`t believe it until I see it.

Pretty bad strategy since they could easily have charged $599+ for it and still sold like crazy. But keep on riding the low margin train AMD.

Do we know all the details of the BF4 edition? Reason I ask is because I known Call of Duty for consoles normally put out a stupid-edition (no offense to those that buy it) that usually cost sometimes upward of $150 dollars which includes crap like CoD game, some artwork book, and something like night vision goggles.

Does the PC version include any of this stuff or is it just a flat out $730 card+game?
EDIT: Example of what I mean, $200 version of Call of Duty Ghost:
http://www.ebgames.com/xbox-one/games/call-of-duty-ghosts-prestige-edition/111350

Eitherway, if $550 is true, before gouging, count me in!
