You are not the one who is confused. 😉

Typical 780 (not factory OC versions) price before tax: 625-650
Rumored 290X price before tax: 549

Not sure how that site and cloudfire can come to any other conclusions.

Selective hearing. It goes both ways though. We will know soon enough.

Or Cloudfire lives in Europe and assumed that taxes are included in the list price like they are there.

Based on what? The 550-600 7970 did poorly, is AMD assuming the price hike shock is over now and hiking it further will be fine?

Should have clarified, I think they can sell the quantities they will have at launch, which I think will be somewhat low. It is close enough in performance to Titan and far enough away from the 780 (going by preliminary leaks) to price it at $649 and still sell. That is my opinion. I personally wouldn't buy one at $649 but with 3 7950s, I think I'm good for a while anyway.

If this is true I may think of selling my 7950 and getting this. I was thinking about getting a second 7950, but they are around $300 now( at least mine is...).

I wouldn't want the bf4 edition anyway. I dunno $600 is a bit steep but I had no issues getting the card I have now at the time. Maybe time to sell it now.

No, its roughly 575$.

500e = 375-400e without the 20-25% tax.

375e = $515
400e = $550

So the $500-$550 is definitely plausible. Generally prices are $500 = 500e once the exchange rates and the taxes are used.

Anyways I wouldn't say it "will" be $500 based on that but I suspect it could be since the prices are usually around $1=1e in reality.

So it sounds like $599 then. GTX780/GTX770 price drops incoming.

Don't think so. My take is 550$. Think that the small market of high-end cards was covered by the last 8 mo by Titan and 5 mo by GTX 780. Even if this card is at or slightly above Titan levels, which by all accounts appears to be and has more than 10% over the 780, it is not a justifiable upgrade. Furthermore Nvidia announced the 780Ti which is an unknown now but might put on hold new buyers. So $550 will shake things up at the top and would be the wisest decision.

You need to get your school money back. 😛
400+25% is 500. Meaning even with 25% VAT like in Denmark, its not gonna be lower than 400€(~550$). 500€ with 20% VAT would be ~417€(~575$).
VAT in France is 19.6%.

Pretty sure he was referring to the US vs Europe price differential. That tech products often end up with VAT in € being roughly the same actual number (XYZ €) as the pre-tax $ price in the US ($ XYZ).

Thats pretty much a myth. Prices are directly the same. Simply with VAT added.

IF R9 290X is selling for $499, then there is something seriously wrong with the prices Nvidia charge for GTX 780. lol

R9 290X beats 780 by almost 20% and they will sell it for $150 below? How does that even make sense?

But I don`t trust those silly frenchies. We are almost at 24th now and truth will be revealed

JHH did look a bit uncomfortable while holding that 780 Ti... The "silly frenchies" may be in the know.

It will be one fine upgrade. Thats for sure

I don`t even understand how he could stand there so proud showing a card thats looking to only have 192 cores more. Smiling and everything knowing he will get desperate people to dish out extra dough only to beat the other cards by a lousy 5-10% margin.
It was pathetic

Meh, 28nm is saturated beyond boredom. Time to bring in the new generation
