its all back up.

Just checked again and no rebate this time. Looks like the old, "you snooze, you lose" deal. I'm wondering if the rebate time-frame has ended or they just pulled it for another reason. Either way, it was there; now it's not.

Is Outpost same as Fry's? The rebate form says Fry's. Same companies but different names?

outpost is owned by frys but i believe that the rebates aren't interchangable.

After reading your post, I called 1-877-OUTPOST. They said I the rebate would apply to online purchases. The salesperson gave his name to assure me. How can I not believe him? It may not be a good PC3200 memory. But all I need is PC2700. I cannot find a better price (hoping the rebate works.)

Just make sure that the system board you are using can utilize "high density" RAM. Usually these special deals utilize this to save on costs/chips. If your MB can, you will probably be ok, but there are no guarantees.
Make sure you write down not only the person's name but also the time you called. In addition, what I like to do is place at least one; if not two more calls to the same number. You will get a different person and can ask the same question. If you get a different answer, then you can worry.

I just completed online order. The order printout reads: KByte 512 MB PC3200 64x64 DDR....$92.99.....$62.99 after mail-in rebate....." So I suppose the rebate is legit. This settles the rebate issue that I raised a while ago.

Would you explain this for me? I know nothing about "density" issue.

I bought 1 Kingston PC4000 512mb and 1 K-Byte PC3200 512mb online and downloaded both rebate forms.

The K-byte rebate says FRY's, but right on Outpost.com it says slash fry's, so I am sure it will be honored, and it was on my receipt too.

The kingston rebate says fry's or Outpost, so it is good either way.

I also had my brother pic me up a stick at the local fry's and it printed out the rebate forms there too.

The ram was actually 3 dollars cheaper at fry's, then online.

But the kingston was 20 dollars more at fry's.

The K-byte rebate says erxpires 10/14/03 so good for a few more days.

The Kingston says expires 10/14/03 also, they both have to be post marked by the 10/28/03.

PM me if you need the rebate forms and i will email them too you.

Oh yeah and he said the K-byte has "VT" chips on it.

As long as it is not spectek, I have had 7 different sticks of spectek and tested them on 4 or 5 amd borad and they were not stable, they seem to work pretty good on P4 rigs.

Under the Kbyte description it reads, "Limit 5 Per Customer/Name/Address"
However, the rebate form states, "Limit one rebate on one item only per Name/Family/Address" I was hoping to get two with a rebate for each, but that would not seem the case. Anyone have any info to the contrary?

In a simplistic explanation, I can tell you that "high density" means the same memory on less chips on the RAM module. Think of it (again, simplistic) in this example; 2 different RAM sticks that both are 256 MB. One has just 8 chips on one side of the module (none on the other side) and the other has 16 chips--8 on each side. Both are 256 MB but the first one is "high density" because it packs the same amount of memory into fewer chips.
Some MB's have trouble with this high density RAM. Usually it is older MB's that have more problems but there is no hard and fast rule to that. I've seen newer MB's with the same trouble. Best bet is to check with the documentation on your MB or contact the support site of the manufacturer and ask specifically about high density RAM.

So hows the quality on these sticks? What chipset did you get?
I bought one KByte 512MB PC3200 this morning and it's working well in my Dimension 4600 so far. The chips are VT, 5ns. I'll go pick up another one tonight so I can go back to dual channel in the system.

I was just reading on fatwallet that kbyte really sucks on rebates. Basically they denied everyone their rebates from the last promotion.

Maybe I'll just buy the memory my company builds. 512 MB 433Mhz/PC3500 CL2 for 95 dollars. 😀

Not to be a thread crapper but K-Byte typically uses low end unknown brand chips on their RAM and rebates can be a problem. You might want to take a chance on using it in a low end system but I would not recommend it for your 400SC or a system you plan to run as high performance. You are better off with higher quality RAM.

Just my .02

A 64x64 DIMM uses 64Mbitx4 chips, which is "high density". 32Mbitx4 is considered low density (e.g. 16 chip 256MB modules). I've only seen 128Mbitx4 chips on 1GB DIMMs ("128x64", 16 chips) and 128Mbitx8 chips are still pretty scarse. These 512MB KByte modules are double-sided 16 chip modules. No, it doesn't have Samsung 128Mbitx8 chips on the module. But neither does anything on pricewatch.

I ran memtest86 off the bootable CD overnight and 65 passes completed. It didn't have a single error with the 2 512MB KByte modules I purchased yesterday arranged in dual channel on my Dimension 4600.

Thanks PXC, should work great in my 400SC.

cheapest solution out there.

and faster ram would make no difference in a DELL.

Question from a beginner...

How do you test the k-byte memory (what program) about dual channel, CL2.5, speed ...

I moved the memory over to my new 400SC last weekend and it also works perfectly. $120 for 1GB of decent PC3200 memory is awesome.

I'd have to pull to be sure, but I have a 256MB k-byte pc2700 stick in a system, and I' pretty sure it has simpletech memory chips on it., it works great @ cl2 running as pc2100.(all this board supports)

how come i am the only one who got this ram and it is seen as pc2700 in my 400SC?????

It has VT chips on it and says PC3200 right on the K-Byte stickers.

How many dimms do you have installed? If it's only 2 total, the SPD on one or both of the modules is set to PC2700.
