I ended up going up there on Friday and buying some stuff only to return it on Saturday. I expected to see a better sale on Sunday but it was not as good.
On Friday, I got an A64 2800 bare, 512 pc3200, gigabyte nf3 mb and fan for like $390. Had nothing to put it in so the excitement of a much faster system than my P3 866 was not bugging me like it should have. But then when I went downstairs to get the paper on Saturday morning. I open it up and BOOM.....an A64 3000 retail with MSI mb for $230. I opted for the NF3 board for an extra 30 bucks. So after I added the ram in, I got out with a total of $340. Now at this point, the excitement took over and I had to get a Sonata case. I wanted the P160 or the WaveMaster, but they were too high w/o PSU. I was looking at their el cheapo cases, but even the ones with 350W PSU's only had 20A on the 3.3. I ended up getting the Sonata. So all in all, taxes included, I ended up with a better deal than Newegg by somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 bucks less.
Three observations with Fry's for me. It is MUCH MUCH easier to get in and out of than BB, CC, or CUSA up there at Gwinnett Place, they will pricematch Monarch here, and I had no trouble returning the parts I bought Friday because they had a better deal on Saturday. I thought that was cool with the return. I would have been fine either way but I am a bit happier to have a mobo that people seem to like.
I have to say....I am impressed with the Sonata. Right now my fridge is running and it is louder than this computer. I'm loving that after spending a year with an XP1800 with a Volcano 9 whirring like a vacuum cleaner. Now I just have to finish tweaking this system to my liking. LOL!
