Fry's - AMD XP2200+ (Thorton) / ECS combo $74.99

Looks like this review here stresses the "rev 2" board would be the one to get versus a "rev 1" board.

newegg has the xp2200 oem for $67, making this board $8 if you were going to buy the proc anyway. HOT.

mine is Rev. 8.... that review is waaayy old... that board doesn't use KT266a anymore, now it's a KT333 chipset, I got a similiar fry's combo w/ same board. The board is really stable, but dont OC your ram timings.

Sweet! Although I think it's odd that ECS changed the chipset significantly, but left the model# the same.

PLU#3873617 shows up as a thorton at outpost. gonna go buy the combo tonite. if the thorton -> barton mod works, and it overclocks, its a barton 3000+ combo for only 74.99.

can anyone comment whether or not it's worth to upgrade from a 1700xp to a 2200+ xp? am I going to see noticable performance boost? basically i have to buy a chip for someone else. i'd prefer to spend as little as possible but it's probably gonna be 50 or so. i'm thinking maybe spend a little more and get a 2200 with a spare motherboard and put my old cpu in new box.

What 1700+ do you have...i have mines overclocked at 3000+ speeds. If you have the right stepping, good mobo and good ram...its really easy to do.

Cool, was it unlocked?
I am gonna go get mine now!

Yes, mine was unlocked since it was from week 34. The word is that anything week 42 or after is locked. Fry's sells in big quantities, so I doubt they'd have any pre-week 42s, but don't know if you don't try. Look at the CPU when it's brought to you from the cage, and make your decision.

I got one from Sunnyvale store yesterday and it is a week 45, locked. Today I went to the San Jose Brokaw store, got a week 34! The week 45 is brown, the week 34 is green. Gonna try it tonight, enalbe the additional cache, it is a barton!

im typing from a k7vta3 right now, i think rev 3, the first kt333 of this model (i think). Its a good stable board, running a 2100 tbred fine, i like it alot cause it doesnt give me problems

One other little tidbit:
This board actually uses the Via KT333CF Northbridge which is a KT400 without 8x AGP.
Outpost.com confirms the Northbridge and just do a seach on KT333CF to see some reviews/comparisions.

No Sig REQUIRED!!

Anyone have problems with this board detecting large HDD? I tried to install a WD 160 GB hDD on this board and it can't seem to detect it. It keep on freezing when it say: "Detecting IDE Drives"

never tried to plug my 160GB drive into the board, i used the PCI ATA/100 card that came with the HD, and that worked perfectly.
