Found this in the Bayarea Fry's ad. I have not been in the store yet, as the nearest one is 45 min. away.

Except for $10 more, is this similar to the previous 2000+ Thorton/Barton deal? Anyone picked up one could comment?

you should try..we don't have Fry's in the Eastern U.S. :)

I'm interested in running this with the 333FSB, but that would o/c it to something like 3000+. Has the 2200+ known to be capable of that?

All I can give is my personal experience with the 2000+ Thornton and the k7vta3. I just built one last night using pc2700 mem, setting the two jumpers to 333fsb and it runs now as a 2600+.
I'm only using a $4 GC68 hsf with an ambiant room temp of about 72F and the bios is reading 40-41C on idle. I'm pretty impressed.
Here's the info on the chip:
AXDC 2000 DUT3C
AQZFA 0341 XPMW

I'm also curious about the faster Thorntons and whether they can manage the 333fsb.

I recall seeing some of the 2000+ combos last week at the Sacramemto Fry's store so this should not be any different. I missed on the 2000+ combo deal becasue I forgot about it, but this one I will have to get especially if they still are selling the Thorton cores. The 2500+ combo looks good too but I'm not sure if Fry's still have any of the before week 39 unlocked cores.

Yeah, has anyone gotten these yet, are they superlocked? Otherwise I'd definitely get at least one. Also, is this only Bayarea Fry's or all of them, since I don't live out West I have to get them to mail it so the more chances the merrier.

Bupkus, something is wrong with your set up. I did the same with my 2000+ and it runs as a 2800 with those settings. It actually tests that fast as well. Did you close your L2 yet?

Most likely not. If the L2 bridges aren't closed, the board will see it as a 2600+ 'T-Bred' so to speak. Gotta close it to have the board see it as a 2800+ Barton. :)

I pin modded my 2000+ Thorton to 1.75 v, for some reason it wouldn't run at 1.65 v. I also up it to a 13.5 multiplier. So it's running at 2.2Ghz with a PR of 3200. Damn fine for a $30 CPU. It's been running at 100% CPU for about 6 hours now. Holding fast at 52 C. I can get it to run at 46 C, but I have my CPU fan controller turned all the way down to keep down the noise.

As David surmised, I didn't mod anything on my Thorntons. I'll feel a little stupid if I discover now that I could activate the other cache; I just bought two Bartons from newegg-- one retail and one OEM. The retail has a date of like 0342 so I expect a locked cpu. The oem I have yet to inspect.

I wonder why no web sites have posted how-to's w/ pics as they had about other overclocks.

The ECS boards seem to be a hit and miss deal with regards to quality. I have bought a couple the past few weeks. One was bad, the other was rock solid. Both came from Fry's combo deals in San Diego.

Still, they have a good return policy, so it's just time and effort to return if it's a crap board. Unlike some other store return policies *cough* CompUSSR *cough*. ;)

Was your board DOA? I have a couple of those combos I bought Nov. 7th and both worked ok for the os install. I haven't put them through any further testing so I'm wondering if they need to be stress tested before the 14 days are up.

Mine's a little weird. If I boot with a CD in my DVD burner. The little light just flashes on and off endlessly. If I just open and close the tray. Everything is fine. I'll call it a quirk.

the XP2200+ Thornton combo is back on Sale at Fry's (ends 11/20) I got a bad board the other day from the Manhatten Beach store but it was no problem returning it to get a new one. It is just a hassle going to Fry's and wait in the return line. I test out every board right away when I get home. So far I have not laded an OS onto any of them. If they boot up and I get a post screen I consdier them working. Sometimes a Bios update is needed to the latest versin 8c.

I hope the XP2400+ Thornton combo will come back soon as I would like to get my hands on that processor.

How much is the XP2200+ combo going for at Fry's now?

At my local Fry's it's going for $74.99 the same price it's been for the past few days. Looks good if I
can get an unlocked one. Does anyone know the PLU# for the Thorton procesor? Anyone here already
purchased it and can provide that number off their receipt?
