ORLANDO - An attempted carjacking turned deadly late Sunday night when car thieves shot the owner as he unloaded groceries.
Kendel Williams, 38, later died at Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to Orlando police.
Williams had just arrived at his west Orlando home around 11 p.m. in the 4600 block of Edgemoor Street when two men came up to him and demanded the car, said Lt. Jim Marchione.
Neither of the men knew how to drive the car because it had a stick shift and instead shot the man, Marchione said.
Police said the suspects are two men in their late teens or early 20s, one of whom was wearing all dark clothing with a hooded sweatshirt. The second suspect was wearing a red, white and black shirt with a hooded sweatshirt on top. Both men ran south from the shooting, according to police.
Williams is the fourth homicide victim in the city this year.
Early Sunday morning, Richard Villegas, 19, was shot near his home in the 5300 block of Hermosa Street. His death marked the third homicide in the city. Police have not made any arrests and have not released a motive in the teen's death.
