Why? Do you enjoy missing all your connections and arriving late to your destination? Even if you didn't notice they went from the best on time arrival rating to consistently one of the worst and certainly the worst of the big airlines. Their lack of a hub\spoke network and exceedingly limited reserve capacity leaves them extremely vulnerable to delays piling up. Because of their setup a delay in one region of the country will cause a ripple effect of delays that the legacies do not suffer from.

I despise Delta's frequent flier program but they actually do a very good job with flight operations. Just don't expect much else from them

Southwest is not a good as they used to be. I do agree with the lateness issue, I am late by at least an hour every single time I take a late flight back to Austin with anything that has to stop in Houston. Still, I have flown quite a few other airlines and the delays have never been just an SWA thing in my experience.

Southwest's rapid reward program took a big dump when it changed from the credit system to miles. It used to be so easy to get free flights.

Spirit's seat pitch is only 28 inches (!) and none of the seats recline. Southwest is luxury in comparison.

Spirit charges a bogus "passenger usage fee," which is not a government sanctioned fee. So you get to pay the airline $17 each way for the privilege of flying with them! How do you avoid the fee? Only if you go to the airport and buy your ticket there. Wtf.

(Yes, I hate Spirit. Sorry for rant and going O/T.)

ppl outraged are not good at math.

and OP, you even break it down, Frontier offer two OPTIONS, so you can choose what you want.

so, option 1

Classic Fare: $100
and you get a carry on for free.

Economy Fare: $90
but charge you, say, $10 for one carry on. then you "break even"

so just have to work out which one make sense for you.

its actually 25 bucks for a carry on for each flight. so my round trip flight im booking for next month it will cost me 50 bucks extra just to bring a over night bag.

but personal items like purses and backpacks are of course free. but god damn you want to bring stuff with you and load it in the over head bin yourself, well now that will cost you 50 bucks.

Or they'll elect to use option 3:
Economy Fare: $100 + $10 for a carry-on.

They should just start charging by the pound. Give us a rate and step on a scale with all your luggage at the gate and be billed.
Step aboard, hop into some densely-packed bunk beds, and they administer a sedative.
Save on air supplies, meals, no need for so much legroom, reduce the number of flight attendants, maybe only one bathroom, and if you use a heavy-lift type of jet instead, you can transport a lot more people in one shot.

I am all for whatever encourages people to travel with less crap. Hell, i'm down for less people traveling as well. I can fit a weeks worth of stuff in a small carry on and can afford a small fee for it. I see families with 5 gigantic suitcases checked plus try to jam oversized carry ons into the compartments... just bring less crap. DAMN.

I want to be the person working the check in counter. With a Tazer. I HATE those people that appear to be going on a 5 day family vaca and all family members have the max number of bags and several will NOT fit in that practice bin you see that speaks to carry ons.
Yet they freely walk into the plane and hold the line up while JAMMING those things into the overheads............... Yup......... Just a dream I have..

think of it as itemized costs.

Some may not travel with a carry on bag, perhaps on business, perhaps if they have family in one area that has some of their stuff. These people get to take that flight cheaper.

Would you prefer everybody pay more non-negotiable just so you don't have to "pay" for your carry-on?

I have never in my entire life seen someone carry nothing onto a plane. Ever.

Oh come on now. You are f'ing traveling. People expecting people to not travel with stuff is just asinine. Anyone with any flying experience already has condensed down into 1 carry on bag for a weeks trip just to make life "a little bit" better when flying. Asking people to travel with no bags is just plain retarded. You know who needs NO bags? People not traveling.

I'd rather have to be stuck next to some guy with fresh clean clothes and who's showered than some stinky bastage wearing the same clothes for 3 days because they are trying to avoid a carry on charge.

Once again, companies have put themselves in these positions. You want to charge me for a bag? Then fricking charge it up front. It's that simple. I get SO f'ing tired of "hidden" charges to try to make them look like they have the cheapest price. How about honest f'ing advertising. That would be a big step in the right direction.

The only conceptual reason I can see for flying w/o a bag is a #yolo weekender where you're traveling, partying, and then sleeping on the way back (same clothes). I've thought of doing this several times going LA -> LV -> LA.

Some sneaky people bring oversized luggage as carry-on knowing that it will get checked in for free at the gate

I hate this so much - especially when the plane is already late leaving the fate (f'ing Southwest. I hate that I have so many miles with them)

This lady tried stuffing her oversize bag into three different overhead bins. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME FRIGGEN SIZE! Then she set it down and started rearranging things in her bag. The flight attendants tried to get her to move by making a plane wide announcement but finally had to go over and ask her to sit down while she did that so the rest of the plane could board.

Honestly I am not so sure about that. Well at least pricing wise. My story above was for Southwest which doesn't charge for your first 2 checked bags yet the planes still had plenty of people trying to jam stupidly over sized bags into the overheads. Now if they actually bothered to enforced size limits...

Oh and on your hidden charges thing - be prepared to grab your ankles as pretty much everyone (R, D, pilots, FAs, airlines) is all about fucking the passenger over:
