who have been late paying their HOA fee. My friend was 2 months late, but he paid and they cashed in his check 3 days ago yet they towed his car last night.

No warnings were posted and nobody was told their cars would be towed. They spray painted the parking spots "no parking".
At least 60 people's cars were towed.

These are townhouses with people owning their homes. They don't rent.

After hearing his story I have nothing but disrespect for the HOA.

Anyone else have any other HOA horror stories?

That is taking things to the extreme. Usually they just put a lien on the home and/or send collection notices. They've set themselves up for quite a backlash.

HOLY SH1T there's gonna be some lawsuits. WTF were they thinking. Were these cars on the street or in peeps driveways?

That is pretty extreme. My HOA is nowhere NEAR that aggressive. Well they ARE, but in acceptable manner. i.e. if someone hasn't paid their dues in 4 months, they file a lawsuit or something, but they give plenty of warning notices first which lay out their intent.

Which is why when house-shopping, ALWAYS investigate the Property Mgmt Service if there is an HOA, because some of them are quite nasty.

HOA's can get fairly militant. When I bought my current home, I made sure that our HOA wasn't very intrusive or expensive. The last home I owned was in a neighborhood with a HOA that just spent spent spent but really had nothing to show for it except for cut grass in our green areas.

But regardless, there's no question that the HOA in question was out of line. Unless your friend's HOA agreement states that there's no on-street parking, I really don't see how they can do what they did. My guess is there's a no parking clause that's really not enforced, but they can tap into that little rule for situations like these.

I can be home in 90 seconds from my desk here at work since I've been coasting in on my bike in the morning. I have a full clip sitting next to my AK in the house. I dare someone to pull that sh!t on me, especially when I get my remote video cameras installed :)

Thank god I live in a city and not in an HOA

This is why I'll never buy a house that requires me to join a homeowner's asssociation.

Yup.

If you ever want to see grown adults act like a bunch of fscking snot-nosed two-year-old sh*ts, go to a HOA meeting.

Isn't the point of the HOA to keep the neighborhood looking nice? That sounds pretty ghetto.

He's just stroking his e-penis. He posts about his AK in tons of threads where it has nothing to do with anything.

I actually wish the HOA had been a bit more forceful in my old neighborhood. They got real lax and we ended up with people parking in the street on both sides making it difficult to drive in the neighborhood, ass-ugly paint jobs on houses, houses that desperately needed painting, trash sitting in the front of people's houses, etc etc.

It goes both ways. The hard part is getting a HOA that fits right in the middle and doesn't become a bunch of dictatorial a-holes or one that gets so lax that the neighborhood goes to crap.

Seriously, might as well move to Africa and enjoy the lower cost of living and less traffic:)

You don't need a HOA for a neighbourhood to be reasonably maintained, other places without them manage it.

I don't believe a word of the OP's post. Even if it is 100% true, I will refuse to believe it until he rewrites his post in English.

No, you don't need one but it is nice to have when people start not caring about their houses and neighborhood and drive down the value of your home.
