Good job with the backlisting, "patriot". I hope you've made yourself feel like more American by hating someone who exercises his freedom of expression.

Freedom of expression? See, that really pisses me off. The standard answer that is given when people get mad at flag burners is "It's his right, if you get mad at him you are an idiot". That's a bullshit answer. Yeah, it isn't illegal for him to burn it, but you all seem to think he is burning it to 'express his views'. Yeah, right. Flag burners these days do it because they are ignorant fools who want attention, that's it. They do it because it's 'trendy', in going against 'The Man'. Lighting the cigarette is simply icing on the cake of stupidity.

I could go light a bible on fire, then drench a statue of Jesus in gas and burn that, to protest say, the Catholic church. Is it legal? Sure is. Is it appropriate? Hell no. Would I be a complete idiot for doing it? You bet.

If you can't understand that and appreciate the value of exercising a constitutional right in order to communicate with your countrymen, I pity you.

If you honestly believe he is doing that to 'communicate with his countrymen', then I am the one that pities you. He is an idiot, that's why we are all mad at him. He is burning it, like I said, because it's 'cool' and controversial. You think lighting his cig on there is to protest the war? Damn, he convinced me!

Now, I don't have any problem with freedom of expression, like people like you seem to think, but I do have a problem with ignorant idiots like this guy. Somehow though, I have to tolerate his stupidity or else *I* am labeled as anti-American. No, you're wrong. Freedom of expression is not what these people are execising, it's Freedom of Ignorance, as was said by somebody else.

DING DING DING, WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

Worry less about the cloth and more about the flesh. Patriotic symbols of our country have less meaning than the country itself. What is this country really? A bunch of borders surrounded by water, Canada, and Mexico? A piece of cloth? No, not in my opinion. To me the United States of America is the people that live here. We are what is important, not a flag. So I think that hurting an American citizen, by "kicking his ass" as so many here put it, hurts America more than torching a piece of cloth.

If you want to be mad at someone, yell at the politicians. They are the ones burning the constition.

I would love to see him live in Iraq and burn an Iraqi flag..... he would be dead or in jail.

Send this pic and his full name to the U.S. agency who gave him his college grant.

Maybe because we have honor? Maybe that's why our country does not bend over when we are attacked by terrorists? Maybe that's why we are a giant melting pot? Here is a kid taught in a American school system, maybe an American job, American life, American cloths, burning the American flag. My guess, he wants to get layed for showing bad character.

definitely not a smart kid. thats a matter of which his views shoud be kept to himself. that's jail-time and an ass kicking... oh, and it wont do any good, either.

The flag is not your nation, and when burned by Americans, it represents the government and its policies, which they obviously disagree with. If you can't understand that and appreciate the value of exercising a constitutional right in order to communicate with your countrymen, I pity you.

"Y'know, I think really prefer someone who would burn the flag and then wrap himself in the Constitution to someone who would burn the Constitution and then wrap himself in the flag.'" -Craig Washington

Exactly...you have the right to burn the flag if you wish. That's whawt makes this country great.

It's so laughable.

You didn't have to look at the picture, he wasn't interfering with your life at all. If someone hadn't took a picture, you would have lived your life blissfully unaware of the flag burning.... wait, your life is still unaffected. No troops died, and apparently the fire died out somewhere between the flag and your house. You have no idea why he did it, and making up reasons like "he did it because it's cool" doesn't reflect the truth, just your storytelling abilities. He is expressing a view, and that view could be anything from "I protest killing done by my country" to "I like the way blue burns." One is as valid as the other. The beautiful thing is he doesn't need anyone's approval or justify his freedom to anyone.

Kicking someone's a$$ because you don't agree with them is illegal in America, therefore it must be Un-American. Burning a flag is legal in America, so it's an American thing to do. So if Un-American people deserve to get their a$$ kicked, then you guys should all be bending over. However, only another Un-American person can kick your a$$, because Americans wouldn't do that type of thing. I guess you guys need to meet outside the country and have a gigantic a$$ kicking circle. Since so many people can touch lick their toes, I think you're flexible enough to kick and be kicked at the same time.

In fact I recommend everyone burn a flag to show your American Pride. I have a stack of them that I use for fuel on those cold American winter nights, in my American fireplace. I also have an American flag beach towel, which doesn't catch on fire, but does get pretty hot on the sand. When I come out of the lake, I wipe the American E. Coli from my feet onto the towel. I wipe my drool with American flag napkins, salute my 47 star flag every morning (I refuse to acknowledge Alaska, Hawaii or North Dakota as states), and keep my American pole warm in my American flag boxers.

Proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free, where hmmm mmmm mmm....

If thats all the American flag means to you then, frankly, that is despicable.

Is it really the flag that is important in our country? How about the people and ideas? Why should a symbol be more important than the people that wave that symbol, or the ideas that blossom under that symbol?

It's funny you guys get so mad over it since he is exercising his rights as an American.

irony ++

Yeah, I know. Strange, isn't it. But seriously, Drew, I would defend his right to do so. If he actually did it, I would kick his ass. Yeah, I'd probably go to jail for assault, but that's also my right to decide. 😎

Violence seems to be popular with your kind.

So is sarcasm and exaggeration.

People seem to really hate flag burners, so violence is not out of the question.

You can burn the flag all you want but lighting a cigarette with it is just wrong. What the hell is he protesting, the taxes against tabacoo?

Anyone see the irony in that statement.

Talk about freedom. please...

Let me simplify this for you. In my mind (and in those of some burners) the American flag is the symbol that directly relates to these people and ideas. Burning that symbol in protest is a clear statement of disrespect against the values of our nation. If this is not so to you then please, elucidate me 🙂

To me a symbol is just that, a symbol. From your statements, it sounds like burning an American flag and burning and American are just as bad. To me, the American, his ideas, and his ideals are more important than something that respresents those things. Symbols are all well and good until they become as important as what they represent.

How come these protesters never burn money ..

i mean come on the terrorists hit the twin towers cuz it was a symbol of how prosperous our nation is...so why is it that protester never burn money the true symbol of our capitalistic society...oh thats right most of those bums have NO jobs or resposibilities....

and like in los angeles cant be bothered to wake up early to attend a scheduled protest...cuz once again they have NO real jobs or responsibilities like the rest of us that have to wake up early and hope they didnt decide to block a street you need to get to work on.

Have you seen the way they dress? They couldn't afford to burn pennies. (just because I support their right to do these things without getting their asses kicked doesn't mean I can't make fun of them 😛)

I thought all of LA was like that, not just the protestors...

I know what the flag stands for, but it is still just a piece of cloth.

As if burning it actually destroys anything that it stands for.
