Friend rolled his car...

Back in March, I spun my car into a ditch, along I89, Vermont's main interstate here. He stopped for me, and I stopped for him, but this time, his accident was much worse.

Well last night, my best friend Jason, who I have known since I was about 3 or 4 years old, rolled his car 2.5 times almost in the exact spot I did in March. We have just left work, around 7 p.m. and were heading home. The road coniditions seemed to be fine, it was clear and there was no snow trails on the interstate. Just as I hit the highway, Jason and a girl from work, who happens to work at here 2nd job downtown that night was following him rather closely. I was going about 67 MPH, and they were going about 70-75, about 100 feet in front of me. I see the car in front, (Jason's) DART to the left, then back to the right. I think to myself, what the fvck is he doing, showing off?? Just then the car darts into the left median at about 70 MPH. All I can see is the car flipping and snow falling everywhere. I obviously stopped as soon as I could, almost wrecking my car in the process. I put the e-brake on, and sprinted into the snow, losing a shoe in the 2.5 feet of snow in the median. I was the first person on the scene, the car was on its side. I honestly thought he was dead, as I banged on the moonroof, hoping for a response back. He opened the door, and attempted to pull himself out, but was not strong enough to do so. He was on his cell phone when I first saw him, talking to the girl from work who called him back after she had saw just what happened. About 30 seconds later, about 15 other people had stopped. Within 2 minutes, there were 2 firetrucks, the ambulance, and 4 state troopers on the scene. The paremedics pulled him from the car, and right onto a strecher. At that point I still was missing one shoe, and had been exposed to several feet of snow for a good 15 minutes. I found my shoe as he was rolled in the ambulance and taken to the hosiptal, I honestly didn't give a sh it about losing a foot. I followed my co-worker, along with the girl from work to the hosiptal.

The cause of the accident is really undetermined, but I think it was combined of the fact of going 70mph, using a cell phone, and a small hard frozen patch of snow that caused the accident. The police also said that the tire defintly blew out, but they are unsure if I was caused before or after the crash.

I got to the hostipal around 7:30, and didnt leave until 11:30, when he was realeased. He had a concusion, and a pretty nasty bump on his leg and knee, but other than that, he was unharmed except for the shock. I thought my foot was going to have some pretty bad frostbite, but it got a lot better once I could warm it up in the waiting room.

The car really didn't look that bad once I got there, the only things that I noticed were the the side mirrors were gone along with both tires and rims pretty much destoryed. I turns out that the car (96 Golf) is in pretty bad shape. The roof is completely caved in, moonroof broken, and the suspension is hosed. He only had libiaty for insurance so it looked like he will have to pay for that one. Luckly he had just taken out health issurance through Staples, and the hosiptal visit should be covered.

Sorry for making this such a long thread, it was just that so much happened last night that it was going to take a long time to explain everything. The point of this is to THANK GOD for seatbelts, and for just everyone to slow down in the winter, no matter what the road coniditons look like. If theres any good that came out of this horrible night was that the girl from work, who was mutualy interested in him anyway, will be spending alot more time with him, and I hope everything works out for them.

Sounds like he escaped serious injury. I'm sure the hospital will keep him for a few days to make sure there are no hidden injuries. (Remember the guy who bled to death from a ruptured spleen that a hospital failed to diagnose?!)

as I banged on the moonroof . . .
The roof is completely caved in, moonroof broken . . .
That was mean of you 😉

He was realeased from the hosiptal at 11:30 last night... I helped him limp to his mom's car and she took him home. The hosiptal must of thought that his injuries weren't serious enough and decided that overnight observation wasn't necessary. When I say I banged on the moonroof, I am pretty sure that I didn't smash it in, I just wanted to make sure that he was still concisous and that he could get out of the car. The roof had already collasped, but I didn't notice because it was dark. He definlty missed serious injury though, it could have been alot worse.

I have noticed that Girls are the cause of most accidents like this one. Guys showing off in front of them, almost always the cause of careless accidents. Was he doing the same... showing off in front of the girl?

Man, I hate driving around VT-NH. I was in an accident crossing the river from Norwich into Hanover, hit some friggin black ice, spun, almost went into the ditch on the side. It was damn scary. Hope your friend is getting better...

I really don't know... I left like 30 seonds after they did from work and they were about 100 feet ahead of me. Next thing I know, he darted to the left and we flipping into a ditch. She had just called him to talk, and he even said something like " Whoa I just sevred". The phone then died and she didnt have time to savely stop. When I got there, he was on the phone and was talking to her, sitting in an nearly upside down car. I really don't think he was dumb enough to show off at that speed, but I can say that he was slighty speeding, going around 73 mph in a 65. If his tire did blow out, or he hit a small patch of the frozen snow, it is extremely easy to go into the median, just like i did in march.

She felt HORRIBLE about the whole thing last night, and we were right there in the ER with him. Her mom even baked cookies because she felt bad. I can deifnlty see how girls can cause accidents like this very easily now.

ahhh you were the dumbass that was complaining that the tow truck guy ripped you off...

Yeah and that bastard did rip me off, and almost lost his worthless job. I hope he enjoys living in his double wide the rest of his life. Anyway, my accident was nothing compared to this one though. He paid 225 for them to pull it out and tow it away. I had to pay 150 just for a pull out and then had to drive all the way home in 10 times worse weather than it was last night.

Now that I think about it, my first accident's cause was also my being a dumbass in front of a girl. Bah... feel so stupid when I think about it now. But... hindsight is 20/20...
