Back in March, I spun my car into a ditch, along I89, Vermont's main interstate here. He stopped for me, and I stopped for him, but this time, his accident was much worse.
Well last night, my best friend Jason, who I have known since I was about 3 or 4 years old, rolled his car 2.5 times almost in the exact spot I did in March. We have just left work, around 7 p.m. and were heading home. The road coniditions seemed to be fine, it was clear and there was no snow trails on the interstate. Just as I hit the highway, Jason and a girl from work, who happens to work at here 2nd job downtown that night was following him rather closely. I was going about 67 MPH, and they were going about 70-75, about 100 feet in front of me. I see the car in front, (Jason's) DART to the left, then back to the right. I think to myself, what the fvck is he doing, showing off?? Just then the car darts into the left median at about 70 MPH. All I can see is the car flipping and snow falling everywhere. I obviously stopped as soon as I could, almost wrecking my car in the process. I put the e-brake on, and sprinted into the snow, losing a shoe in the 2.5 feet of snow in the median. I was the first person on the scene, the car was on its side. I honestly thought he was dead, as I banged on the moonroof, hoping for a response back. He opened the door, and attempted to pull himself out, but was not strong enough to do so. He was on his cell phone when I first saw him, talking to the girl from work who called him back after she had saw just what happened. About 30 seconds later, about 15 other people had stopped. Within 2 minutes, there were 2 firetrucks, the ambulance, and 4 state troopers on the scene. The paremedics pulled him from the car, and right onto a strecher. At that point I still was missing one shoe, and had been exposed to several feet of snow for a good 15 minutes. I found my shoe as he was rolled in the ambulance and taken to the hosiptal, I honestly didn't give a sh it about losing a foot. I followed my co-worker, along with the girl from work to the hosiptal.
The cause of the accident is really undetermined, but I think it was combined of the fact of going 70mph, using a cell phone, and a small hard frozen patch of snow that caused the accident. The police also said that the tire defintly blew out, but they are unsure if I was caused before or after the crash.
I got to the hostipal around 7:30, and didnt leave until 11:30, when he was realeased. He had a concusion, and a pretty nasty bump on his leg and knee, but other than that, he was unharmed except for the shock. I thought my foot was going to have some pretty bad frostbite, but it got a lot better once I could warm it up in the waiting room.
The car really didn't look that bad once I got there, the only things that I noticed were the the side mirrors were gone along with both tires and rims pretty much destoryed. I turns out that the car (96 Golf) is in pretty bad shape. The roof is completely caved in, moonroof broken, and the suspension is hosed. He only had libiaty for insurance so it looked like he will have to pay for that one. Luckly he had just taken out health issurance through Staples, and the hosiptal visit should be covered.
Sorry for making this such a long thread, it was just that so much happened last night that it was going to take a long time to explain everything. The point of this is to THANK GOD for seatbelts, and for just everyone to slow down in the winter, no matter what the road coniditons look like. If theres any good that came out of this horrible night was that the girl from work, who was mutualy interested in him anyway, will be spending alot more time with him, and I hope everything works out for them.
