Friend just adopted new kitten and found out he has broken leg

Does anyone have any suggestions for this kind of situation?

A friend of my wife and I recently rescued a kitten from the local animal control. His name is Sam and he's 4 months old. He's clearly been the victim of abuse; he's underweight and has some scars from stitches.

After she brought the kitten home, she found him limping a bit. She brought him to a vet and found out that Sam had a broken front leg that did not heal properly. It's now bent oddly and causes him to favor him left front leg. He doesn't appear to be in pain (he runs on it), but I don't know if it could be a problem later in life.

She's a teacher and can't afford the estimated $2000 required for surgery to correct the leg. Does anyone have some suggestions for this poor guy?

Can they rebreak it and reset the bone? I imagine you would have to pay for anasthesia and such, but it would be cheaper than surgery.

I like cats, but spending an ass-load of money on something like that is silly.
Money like that could be used to take care of your kids or get an education.

Get a new one.
Pets are cool like that. You can get a new one and love it just as much. You wont even know the difference if it has the same fur pattern.

I'm not trying to be cruel but you already know the answer to your question and that is to have the poor fellow euthanized. It is the best option. Who is going to adopt a cat that need $2K worth of surgery? It is unlikely to happen.

WTH? If the cat is happy and mobile, there is absolutely no reason to have it put down. Like a cat cant live out a life with a slight limp.

Ah, the liberal who thinks he is merciful yet is acutally the cruel one. You think it is OK to have a cat with a broken leg and to just let it be? If you cannot or will not pay to have it corrected then have the decency to do the proper and humane thing and have the animal put down. I am an animal person so I do not take these things lightly. Any repsectable Vet would tell you exactly what I am.

My first cat had a broken front leg, which didn't heal properly, despite our efforts to take it to the vet and put it in a cast... Having a cast on a cat is impossible.

She healed just fine, but had a slight limp for the rest of her days, and she walked a bit funny. Otherwise it was a perfectly normal and happy cat.

Don't you dare to kill the kitten. If you can't take it to a vet, leve him be... he'll be ok, despite a physical imperfection.
