I'm not trying to be cruel but you already know the answer to your question and that is to have the poor fellow euthanized. It is the best option. Who is going to adopt a cat that need $2K worth of surgery? It is unlikely to happen.

WTH? If the cat is happy and mobile, there is absolutely no reason to have it put down. Like a cat cant live out a life with a slight limp.

Ah, the liberal who thinks he is merciful yet is acutally the cruel one. You think it is OK to have a cat with a broken leg and to just let it be? If you cannot or will not pay to have it corrected then have the decency to do the proper and humane thing and have the animal put down. I am an animal person so I do not take these things lightly. Any repsectable Vet would tell you exactly what I am.

Not a liberal at all thank you.

The cat does not have a broken leg, the cat has had a broken leg, that didnt heal exactly properly. The leg is only, from the way I read the OP, slightly mis-shapen causing a cat to walk with a slight limp. The cat apparently runs and shows no outward signs of pain or discomfort. Surgery would correct this so you would have a perfect textbook kitten, but I would imagine in the history of mankind, more than 1 or 2 domestic animals have lived with a slight limp.

My wife and I had a dog who lived for 14 years, quite happy and carefree, with hip dysplasia. The vet pretty much said it was operable, but may leave the dog completely paralyzed. The vet also said that the dog could live a fine life unless the pain was too much, which in his last few months it was and we did finally have him put down.

As I see it there are only three options.

1. Take a loan out and get the leg fixed.
2. Tell the kitten to quit it's bitchin and walk off the pain. My dog only had three legs and got around fine.
3. Get a pillow case and drive over a bridge with cat in case and toss.

Since we let a man whore himself for a measly video card, I seriously doubt it 😉

Nah, just place a sigh outside your house that says:

"Pet my pussy, only 5 dollars" 😛

Either find a new owner or kill it.
I'm not kidding.

I like cats, but spending an ass-load of money on something like that is silly.
Money like that could be used to take care of your kids or get an education.

Get a new one.
Pets are cool like that. You can get a new one and love it just as much. You wont even know the difference if it has the same fur pattern.

you should not have pets.

Can they rebreak it and reset the bone? I imagine you would have to pay for anasthesia and such, but it would be cheaper than surgery.

That's what the vet suggested ... the $1500-2000 option.

My first cat had a broken front leg, which didn't heal properly, despite our efforts to take it to the vet and put it in a cast... Having a cast on a cat is impossible.

She healed just fine, but had a slight limp for the rest of her days, and she walked a bit funny. Otherwise it was a perfectly normal and happy cat.

Don't you dare to kill the kitten. If you can't take it to a vet, leve him be... he'll be ok, despite a physical imperfection.

Thanks, that's what we figured. She's grown quite attached to Sam, and if she returns him he'll surely be put to sleep. Glad to hear someone else has been in a similar situation.

what about the SPCA? if they were unwilling to pay for it, im sure they would know what to do in the situation- even if it meant having to put him down. 🙁

Yeah, the wife is going to call the ASPCA and see if they have any suggestions.

Rename the cat Stumpy. I think it'll be a cute name for it.

Actually see if there's a public pet/animal clinic like the ASPCA as they often have extremely low rates for pet medical care. In NYC there's also Humane Society.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this kind of situation?

A friend of my wife and I recently rescued a kitten from the local animal control. His name is Sam and he's 4 months old. He's clearly been the victim of abuse; he's underweight and has some scars from stitches.

After she brought the kitten home, she found him limping a bit. She brought him to a vet and found out that Sam had a broken front leg that did not heal properly. It's now bent oddly and causes him to favor him left front leg. He doesn't appear to be in pain (he runs on it), but I don't know if it could be a problem later in life.

She's a teacher and can't afford the estimated $2000 required for surgery to correct the leg. Does anyone have some suggestions for this poor guy?
Contact the local animal control. They probably did the earlier care and should have the records. If he's not in pain and can run on it though, I suggest not bothering with the surgery. Not all vets are honest FYI.

It will be fine, just cut the leg off and attach a stick of wood.

Who doesnt want a cool pirate cat?

hahaha

But take it to the animal shelter and see if they can do anything.

To make him look like more like a pirate, dont forget to remove roughly one of his eye(with a knife duh) and put an eyepatch on it 😀

Sam is lucky to have found a safe and loving home.

As far as the broken leg.... chances are that there is not too much to be done. If the cat is not in pain, then leave it be. I have one here that had one of her paws chopped off a(no, we dont know how, but she was a stray, and the vet said it was healed by nature, not by modern medicine) and it...apparently, according to the vet, took painful ages to heal. there is nothing to be done for sophie now... she runs and plays and is a great cat. Will it shorten their lives? ... let me put it this way.... it will not shorten Sam's life anything compared to if she had stayed with whomever did this to the poor kitty.

and if you take it back, it will be put down. A horrible thing to do to a cat who only has a limp.

🙂

Not true. I had a cat that was hit by a car and got its leg broken. They fixed him up and he had a cast for a while. It's not like a human cast of course, but still a cast.
