French people piss me off

HOWITIS

Platinum Member
i was in a chat room (why i did such a thing i'll never know), and in this chat room a frenchman was ragging on a guy from russia. then the french guy said how russia had killed all of there Jews and stuff.

well this finally pissed me off, he had everyone in the chat room flaming him! so (i never really liked the french anyway) i brought up the fact that the french surrendered and then volunterred to send their jews to germany to be gassed. well this sent him off. now everyone turned on me. said my parents must be bastards to raise someone who could say such a thing (even though he said the same thing to the russian guy). also realize that the french president recently admited the horrors of the Vinchy government. i believe i was unfairly judged, and had to bring this up somewhere a bit more friendly 🙂.

anything like this ever happen to you guys?

word of advice... avoid chat rooms.

paris sucks

French people living in FRANCE suck (don't want to offend those candians)..even the chinese lady in the restaurant was rude toward us (I even spoke Chinese)

Avignon, Marseille {sp!), Monte Carlo, Paris all suck

Subways suck except they were VERY VERY efficient, but DAMN dirty! London's tube is much cleaner

I will never go back to France and I recommended everyone I know not to go there

Food sucks...nothing original except for, let's see, french onion soup. The snails are nasty.

This is all I can think up for now

Yeah, I guess they have to have some pride somewhere after being garrisoned/overrunned (I think that is the right word) 2 times in both great wars.

Here we go again... sorry you had a bad experience in France, but I too have been to Paris and everyone (just about) was perfectly pleasant to me.

There are rude people everywhere (imagine someone from Paris visiting New York City). There are SOME rude french people just as there are some rude Germans and some rude Americans.

There is a LOT to like in France. Don't let some people cause you to issue a blanket statement about the entire culture.

Hearsay around here, but....

A guy that works with my friend was in downtown Salt Lake just before the olympics started. It had just stormed and he was walking along the sidewalk somewhere when he hit an icy patch. He slipped, lost his balance and in the process bumped into a guy. He looks up and notices the guy he bumped is in a France Olympic Team jacket. The French guy gives him a dirty look, says something in French, spits at the guys feet and walks off. :|

this was actually the most personal flame war i've ever been in. you'd thought i'd said something about his family. i don't know why he felt his satement about the russians would be so well taken. talk about an arrogant people.

The guy probably did not know any better. The french government rewrote the history books a while back to make France's role in WWI and WWII more paletable.

You have had a few experiences with a few people, most in situations that were atypical of normal human interaction (since when do you expect polite behavior on the internet?).

Open your minds a little. If you base all your opinions on such a small sample, you are succumbing to bigotry, just as if you had made a negative comment about Blacks or Asians.

I've worked with ten French citizens in the last four years, and they are definitely nicer and more reasonable than the vast majority of the Americans I meet. Don't base your entire perception of an ethnic groups on so little. How would you like it if Europeans based all their opinions of America on experiences in a New York City subway?

<< I once had an eight-month arguement with a French guy that I met here on AT while I was working at Intel. He was a moron. >>

An eight-month argument? That requires a minimum of TWO morons. :Q

when people start saying something is wrong with my parents for stating facts thats when i start generalizing. i don't like franc's polit view toward america either. i didn't like em before, and this has just cemented it.

i've met at least 10 french ppl too living in the US in the past 10 years. except for 1 the rest were dumb arrogant assholes. and to think i should have felt different since i'm a fellow foreigner here.

I have to agree...

My experience in Paris was $hit. NO one was helpful. NO one made the effort to speak a bit of English. Plus it is VERY expensive. You have to PAY to go to the washroom.

France only has fast trains!

F-U-France! 😀

Yeah, some poor French girl was in New York City during the Puerto Rican Pride Day back a couple of years ago, got her clothes torn off and her body violated!!! It sure did piss Geraldo off.

Certainly, Parisians can be rude sometimes, much the same as any people in a large city in the United States. Do you want to know what the biggest problem with France is and why so many people have bad experiences there? Americans tend to be rude, stupid, and arrogant and fail to understand that they are guests in someone else's country.

Nothing original about French food? Pssst, if you ate somewhere other than McDonald's, you might experience some of the best cuisine in the world.

Actually, the French are guests on our planet, if you recall (and they and others seem to forget) they would all be speaking German if an awful lot of Americans did not die on their behalf. They should kiss our feet, and our @ss! The rest of the world should also!!!

If it were not for the French in the American Revolution (Lafeyette, Marion), we'd be speaking English today! Wait, we are speaking English. Well, we'd be eating bland boiled foods, would have bad teeth, and would find "Benny Hill" to be funny. And we'd have Page 3 girls.

In northern France (in fact, in most of France) there is a deep appreciation to the help of America in WWI and WWII. In the mid-80's, a survey was taken in Europe, to discover which countries had an overall positive opinion of America. Only France and the Soviet bloc, on average, "liked" Americans. England had one of the most unfavorable impressions of America.

Don't forget it is harder to be in the path of battle, than to be 3000 miles across an ocean. France lost 5% of its population in WWI, principally its able-bodied men.

The french have a few really good wines, thats about it. Now before you start telling me that I can also get some really great wines from Italy. Let me tell you that it's just not the same. I'm not an expert on wine (I just started recently) but I know what I like.

unfortunately, the frogs won't change (at least the one's that I've met), they are under the impression that their sh%t doesn't stink.

France lost all of their able bodied men a long time before that. Perhaps you've heard France being referred to as the land of Napoleon's 4Fs. This was because supposed ly after the Nepoleoniac wars france suffered so many great losses all of their able bodied men were killed off only leaving the usless (4Fs, in the classification for ablility to go to war 4F was the worst)

<< when people start saying something is wrong with my parents for stating facts thats when i start generalizing. i don't like franc's polit view toward america either. i didn't like em before, and this has just cemented it. >>

I think you mean to say "when a person," not "when people," since your initial gripe seems to have been with one individual, whom you implicitly take as representative of 130 million.

As for "franc's plot view toward america" -- what is it? Are you referring to recent issues with unilateral American actions and the "axis of evil?" If so, perhaps you might check on-line news services to see the choice words England, Russia -- well, just about everybody else -- had for the US.

So that would also apply to the Austro-Hungarian empire, which also suffered great losses in the Napoleonic wars? That explains the poor performance of Germany in the Olympics.

Just to give another opinion on the French/France:

I went to Paris.

Yes, the tubes were extremely filthy.

The food was EXCELLENT.

The museums, art, etc. were EXCELLENT (I'm a van Gogh fanatic, btw).

The people were not very polite (and my mother speaks French), but I found their attitudes rather laughable, personally. Just don't take them too seriously and you'll be fine.

Overall, my trip was a great experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I wouldn't have wanted to spend more than a week there, though. Their attitudes might have bugged me a bit after that. I have been to the major US cities and despite what some people have said in this thread, I found the people in all of them to be a lot more polite than the French. But you know what, that's fine. They don't owe ME personally a darn thing.
