lol. You're kidding, right? Do they really have you pissing your bed so easily as to have you think every plane that falls from the sky, losing contact, may come and get you?

Wow, what a nation of cowards we have become.

Well, such a transponder loss is what started the chain of events leading to 9/11...the first indicator that something was wrong.

It really does not happen very often with commercial aircraft.

I'll ask a pilot buddy of mine, not to mention if the entire electrical system fails it probably isn't as remote as you would think. Your logic is immensely flawed regardless. The chances the plane are filled with enough fuel to reach the US are remote.

But the fact that your fearful perspective is the first one that pops in your head speaks volumes about how successful the Big Lie has become in making once proud Americans boot quaking, bed wetting, cowards.

Now that is just silly.

Rio to Paris: 5639 miles (9075 km) (4900 nautical miles)
Rio to DC: 4769 miles (7675 km) (4144 nautical miles)
Rio to NYC: 4784 miles (7699 km) (4157 nautical miles)

Try living in DC sometime when your morning commute comes to a halt, the Metro is stopped, people are evacuated...all because of a suspicious, empty van parked nearby.

(I see you live in NYC, so you of all people should at least be curious when a plane goes off the grid.)

Having to cover that kind of distance the plane would burn through the vast majority of it's fuel greatly lessening it's viability as a weapon.

Ohhh, gawd, so it can make it. RUN!

I lived in DC, my wife worked 2 blocks from the WH. I work right across from the Chrysler building, I see the mid-level tier outside my window. The ESB is maybe 10 blocks away out my other window.

Me? I couldn't care less. Shit happens, people die all of the time. Personally, it was a bit amusing to see all of the headless chickens running around over the whole AF1 thing.

A plane goes off the grid in Boston I would be alarmed because by the time it would be detected/found, it may be too late. But from all the way from fuckin Brazil to NYC/DC undetected?

That plane has a range of 6800 miles. They will load it with enough fuel for 1 hour beyond its flight. Though on trans atlantic flights they may load it with more in case of extreme diversions. If it was fully loaded with fuel they would have 4 hours of fuel left by the time they hit NYC. I am guessing both engines burn about 3500 pounds\hour each. Should have about 4000 gallons of fuel to ignite if it were to show up.

That said something that large would be seen by our radar systems. The problem on 9-11 was our air defense system's radar pointed outwards. We were nearly blind to anything internal.

With planes flying down the Potomac every 30 seconds it is hard to get worked up when you see a plane in DC, even post 9/11. He does have a point regarding the reaction to silly crap like a car or briefcase left in the wrong place though.

Apparently some people around here do panic. Seems like every time there's a military exercise involving planes planned, they have WTOP and the news stations issue a notice about it so people don't panic and start flooding the emergency numbers.

your post doesn't belong here. this thread is for the completely retarded and selfish idea that the plane was hijacked and attacking the east coast of the US.

Which would be about 1/3 of what the planes that went into WTC 1&2 were carrying. Given the A330-200's fuel capacity it would be more attractive to hijack a long distance flight where it would be carrying closer to max fuel load (36,000 gal) and do so much nearer the target.

i will say one cool thing ...

3 weeks ago i went to my friends bachelor party and we took his friends boat from his house in alexandria, va on the potomac to georgetown. right as we were passing the airport a plane was landing.

it was pretty cool seeing the airplane come down and land being basically parallel to the run way on a boat in the water.

Absolutely. One of my favorite things in the world to do is watch planes take off and land. I could lay back and do it for hours, especially if you find a good observation spot.

If this flight is down, I hope all aboard went quickly and painlessly. It's so shitty, but it sounds like a 'shit happens' type of situation. Nothing can be done about it, no one is to blame.

Yeah, whatever respect I had for ATOT is now gone.

Imagine the terror on the plane as everyone knows it's going down. *shudder*

Sounds like Reagan National.

Sort of random, but I was messing around with FSX over the weekend, and I found out inadvertently that it's not possible for a 747 to take off from Reagan without slamming into the buildings across the Potomac 😱. Runway's too short for a 747. I guess they normally land and take off from Dulles? Never really paid attention.

It did not start that way, maybe it does not need to end that way.

There was that Ethiopian plane that got hijacked and ditched into the ocean after they ran out of fuel, and iirc, there were a decent number of survivors. You can only hope at this point they manage to locate it quickly.

I'm betting that it crash landed on some island with a secret military installation and some spooky ghost-like thing that shows up in every episode....

Oh wait.

There's no emergency call to ground towers? I bet it's aliens. The plane got pulled in by tractor beams.

There is a park right by Reagan National that you can do that. Back when I was a kid this was a very popular spot in the summer as there was always a bit of a breeze coming off the river. I'm not sure if this is still possible but you used to be able to go sit right underneath the flight path of the landing planes, they would pass over around 100 feet above your head.

Gravely Point
