French jet disappears

They don't have any way of tracking these things when/if they crash?

if the transponder stops sqwaking, all they can do is send S&R crews to the last known coordinates.

When that USAirways flight ditched in the hudson, many websites still showed its transponder sqwaking in the hudson...

According France 2, at 3.30 AM (French time), the pilot was in conversation with their company and was reporting hard turbulance and the conversation was cut off.

Brazil's air force confirmed the plane was missing and said a search and rescue mission was under way near the island of Fernando de Noronha.

I just heard on the radio newscast that the pilot was talking about something shorting out after the turbulance. I know these planes are fly-by-wire but have no clue what kind of backup systems they have on those type of planes. Hopefully at some point there is a mechanical emergency system to cover for a catastrophic electrical failure.

I hope the crash survivors are prepared for the craziest moments of their lives. Starting with tropical polar bears and monsters seemingly composed of smoke. Yep, they willingly purchased their personal tickets to Hell without even knowing it. Suckers.

I know this is selfish but I hope the plane doesn't "reappear" over DC or NYC all the sudden. I am sure we have fighters on alert until the aircraft's fate is determined.

Otherwise, RIP to all aboard.

lol. You're kidding, right? Do they really have you pissing your bed so easily as to have you think every plane that falls from the sky, losing contact, may come and get you?

Wow, what a nation of cowards we have become.

They are reporting it was hit by lightning, but how in the heck would they be able to call that yet.

I dont think this will turn out well, and this route is a common one for my company 🙁

I'm surprised he didn't blame Obama somehow.

Well, such a transponder loss is what started the chain of events leading to 9/11...the first indicator that something was wrong.

It really does not happen very often with commercial aircraft.

Liability defense appears to already be in full throttle.

Sounds like a electrical problems. Must had been something catastrophic to knock out the entire electrical system.

Any pilots on here? How does that planes fly by wire system work if the plane experiences a loss in power?

I'll ask a pilot buddy of mine, not to mention if the entire electrical system fails it probably isn't as remote as you would think. Your logic is immensely flawed regardless. The chances the plane are filled with enough fuel to reach the US are remote.

But the fact that your fearful perspective is the first one that pops in your head speaks volumes about how successful the Big Lie has become in making once proud Americans boot quaking, bed wetting, cowards.

There is a backup hydraulic system. Also if it was a loss of power there is a ram air turbine that deploys to supply power to key systems.

that's because of all the fricken retards on public roads. There are no retards up in the sky... just mechanical failures and Mrs. Nature. Oh and terrorists.

Now that is just silly.

Rio to Paris: 5639 miles (9075 km) (4900 nautical miles)
Rio to DC: 4769 miles (7675 km) (4144 nautical miles)
Rio to NYC: 4784 miles (7699 km) (4157 nautical miles)

Try living in DC sometime when your morning commute comes to a halt, the Metro is stopped, people are evacuated...all because of a suspicious, empty van parked nearby.

(I see you live in NYC, so you of all people should at least be curious when a plane goes off the grid.)
