There are a few (not many) top freezers with ice/water dispensers, too ;) They're an odd duck!

Freezer on the bottom is cool! we got one a few years back, and would not have it any other way. Those Amanas have all-glass interiors, and with the freezer on the bottom, those "science projects" in plain view in the fridge cannot hide for long:p

I have always had a freezer on either the top or the side (which I prefer). I suppose it could go either way, but I like the top vrs. bottom I think.

the bottom ones are going to be the best for power, i'd assume. but you know, they just look wrong. wrong wrong wrong. the side by sides are basically nonuseable but something about them just looks bling bling. :) i'd buy a top to balance between the two. :)

WTF? I didn't know they still made non-side-by-side fridges. I mean, except for SubZero separate systems. What is the matter with side-by-sides...that's what I've always had and it's always seemed like plenty of space (of course, I also have a deep freeze for fish and game).

I just bought a new fridge, i got the freezer on the bottom.

why would ya wanna bend over everytime you open the fridge? if the freezer is on bottom...how often do you open the freezer? saves a lot of backstrain....its just sooooooo much better.

I too don't like the 3 or 4 door design. We have a large 4 doors side by side & it often full, because the walls between fridge & freezer take up a good portion of the volume.

The sale man may have a point when he claims the bottom freezer is more efficient than the top. Cold air is heavier than hot air therefore less cold air lost at the bottom compare to top during freezer door open.

I have an Amama bottom freezer ;) At first, I thought it was weird, but I just stopped thinking about it (until this thread came up). I hardly ever go into the freezer, so it's ideal to be on the bottom - not ot mentions that all of your REAL food is MUCh easier to get ;)

That said, next house will have all stainless steel appliances. Bling bling :)

IMHO, the only benefit to going stainless is that its easy to clean and its STRONG.

What good is a stainless steel refrigerator? If its good quality SS, you wont be able to stick anything to it.

A trick I picked up when I go restaruant equipment shopping with dad is to take a good refrigerator magnet along. Low grade SS sticks easily, higher grade SS wont hold unless you get a horeshoe AlNiCo magnet. You can test this on fryers, ovens, stoves, tables, sinks, et al.

Sub-zero? Arent those things damn expensive? I'm browsing thru their offerings and I'm only seeing 19 cubic feet for their largest models. Hell, for $1000 I can buy a commercial glass door 40 cubic foot one from dad and put it in the house...;)

Fiance and I both prefer the look of stainless steel instead of the typical white that 99.8% of all refriderators come in. God forbid we break some ferengi code and spend extra $$ for something that we like the looks of :)

Ok, fair enough. But be a man and go commercial. Ever wonder how much Pepsi you can put in a True Triple door 85 cubic footer with a half horse compressor?

Quite possibly the best $4k ever spent.

Top. Why?

1) We all know everyone eats frozen foods ALL THE TIME. If you claim that you don't, you are either a liar or a communist. So, having the freezer on top makes it easy to get to our frozen foods.

2) The bottom of the fridge is used to store fresh produce and vegetables. From 1), we know that the produce drawers are always empty. Therefore there will be no reason to ever reach down there.

3) Having the freezer on the bottom is a hazard! Why, a small child could wander into the freezer and be frozen to DEATH! With a fridge on the bottom, a child will merely be chilled.

hahaha

Stainless steel ones look cool and are easy to clean. BUT, you will be cleaning them often! Fingerprints and smudges are very noticeable. I would NOT recommend stainless steel if you got youngins in the house....unless you don't mind cleaning often.

I prefer freezer on top because it's hard to see whats in the freezer when it's on the bottom without getting on your knees. With the freezer on top it's easy to see what is in either compartment.

If you go with the bottom freezer, you'll want the Pullout Freezer Drawer instead of a swinging door.

They're all pretty darn efficiant these days, so that's not much concern. The thing to think about is, this purchase is going to be in your home, being used several times daily, for the next 15 or 20 years! Spend the few extra bucks for one that REALLY suits you!

I think you should get the kind you want, and by gum, if I made refrigerators, I'd make all kinds so people could have a choice. I got side by side energy star stainless. Almost two thousand clams. It's not perfect though. The freezer IS small for pizza, but I don't buy frozen. I'm in california and almost never eat frozen food. I'll freeze a 64 cent a pound Safeway chicken because of the price, but with the exception of Trader Joes French beans or some corn a few times a year the freezer is vegetable free. The other thing is that the ice machine needs overclocking. It will sit there and clug clug along and take a half a minute to fill a glass. The crusher is slow too and spits ice all over the floor requiring a number of kicks to get all under the frig before it puddles.

Chromium is the main ingredient that makes stainless steel stainless, and chromium happened to be highly magnetic. There are many composites of stainless steel for different purposes therefore no one quality is better than the next.

I got one of these sub-zero fridges...pretty nice.

I would have to cast my vote for a bottom freezer as well. You don't go into your freezer as often as the fridge and for anyone else out there who's had a frozen turkey or any other large frozen object (those cornish game hens are murder) land on their feet, it makes much more sense to put the freezer lower to the ground to minimize acceleration due to certain gravitational forces...;)
