Some more software, this time video capture related:

VirtualDub for capturing video (capture to AVI).

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

GSpot Analyser to get info about video files, like mpeg2, avi, ...

Establishes what video and audio codecs are required to play an AVI file. Version 2.5+ also supports MPG1/2 (DVD, VCD, SVCD) video.

For computer programming, check out the new Express products from Microsoft:

L=Microsoft Express Products]http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/express/[/L]

Programs inlcude:
Visual Basic 2005 Express
Visual C# 2005 Express

These are free (for now at least) and Visual Basic 2005 Express rocks. They finally added Edit-and-Continue to a .NET language, and it runs much better than the full-blown .NET professional IDEs.

Yeah, I absolutely love this app.

It's 'must have' in my book.

DIRMS defragger. Worked much better than the disk defragger in XP, which refused to completly defrag my drive. There's another program on the site too, buzzsaw, which runs in the background and defrags your drive during idle time, but I haven't tried that one.

"**Server Antivirus: Bitdefender Free Edition. I installed this on the free NFR copy of Server 2003 that MS sent me. It works perfectly. Panda, antiVir, and others won't even let you install their free versions. The only downside is that it doesn't provide realtime protection. "

I run AVG free on windows server 2003 and it works fine.. Haven't used Bitdefender so can't comment about it.. AVG is pretty decent though... really good about udpating...
