Great resource! I actually changed over half my comercial products (which wern't 100% legit) to freeware products from this site. Now I am looking for a SWF to EXE converter.

Anyone know of any good freeware aternatives?

I have been using a really small and fairly simple FTP server I just remembered was Freeware and Open Source. The installer is only 433kb in size and its call TYPSOFT.

There is a new Alpha version out which I haven't tried, however version 1.1 was realiable and had all the main features the average FTP server needs.

Hi,

I'm currently a user of WinISO 5.3. It's a wonderfull software, but one must pay for a license. And since it isn't updated for quite some time (project was abandoned, or is it too good that it doesn't need any updates?), anyone knows of a good software that can do what WinISO does?

Opening ISO/BIN files, changind it's contents (adding files/directories), creating bootable CD/DVD or extract an exact ISO (with boot info) from any CD/DVD?

This list is getting better each day ... and very big ... :)

I'll second these two

These have both been mentioned. It would have been real nice to see these two listed when I was looking for FREE windows email server.

hMailServer - FREE WINDOWS email server that is open source. I got this up and running is 30 minutes

NotePad++ is a nice small footprint editor AND fast. Allows syntax highlighting for many languages.

FastStone image viewer is the best ACDSee replacement I've seen. Even better than XNVIEW and Irfanview IMO.

Hey...thought I'd throw my contribution to the list. I did a search on these titles and get no results so I'm hoping these are new to the forum.

Core FTP Lite - Not full fledged Freeware but still a pretty decent FTP for being the lite version. Has enough features built in to be very useful.

Webniac - Freeware editor. Handles 9 different file types with the ability to save as "all files" which enables you to save files to your own unique extension. Has syntax highlighting for everying from HTML to PHP and Javascript. Built in color picker which provides both HTML and RGB values. CSS wizard, etc. Perfect for writing .htaccess files. Very handy program.

Hope these aren't repeats and that someone gets some use out of them. Have a great one.

It adds mouse gestures to windows and is really configurable. :)

I'll second this. I've been using this software for about a month both at home and at work and it's fantastic. I didn't think I'd like it, but it's really a great program. It's basically a macro program - you draw stuff while holding down the right mouse button (which can be disabled for games etc. by clicking on the icon in the system tray). Quick way to launch apps, type in username/passwords, etc.

This is by far the best information online for free software. Thanks to all the contributors for their input.

Now if we could get the OP updated with some of these additional suggestions.

I tried Ground Control (windows scripting utility) which is really nice, but found the following script writer it even has a recorder like Excel does for Macros

AutoHotkey - Freeware
http://www.download.com/AutoHotkey/3000-2094_4-10436247.html?tag=lst-0-1

I read through the entire thread and noticed that there were only a few media players that (with a DVD Decoder codec) could play DVDs however only 1 could pass-thru (S/PDIF output) the AC3 surround sound to the speakers and that was bsplayer.

Unfortunately it can only do this with the WinDVD codec does anyone know of a player with AC3 pass-thru (S/PDIF output) using the PowerDVD codec?

*EDIT*

It appears as though Media Player Classic can perform the requested task using AC3 Filters that can pass thru the AC3 to S/PDIF output.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm

VideoLAN also appears to be able to perform this function.

Next time I'll research it before I ask :p

I'm surprised this isn't on the list. Auto Gordian Knot is a few programs bundled together that work together automatically to convert a dvd (previously decrypted) using xvid or divx. It takes a while, but is amazing.
