I wouldn't bet on it, that stuff's pretty new and I see nothing about the nforce in the mailing list archives.

Anyhow, if you dont plan on using this as a desktop type system it should work fine. You wont need much video or audio so that wouldnt be much of a problem. I wouldnt trust it for a mission critical system because of the chipset being new and possibly different enough to cause problems.

is there support for 7500 and 8500 ati in freebsd. You wouldn't by chance have good web site with this kind of info? Want to get on a mailing list with info on new updates.

Look for release information for driver issues. Ati Radeon 8500/7500's should work fine for console. If you want X to work you shouldnt be asking about FreeBSD, but about XFree86. You will also have to upgrade to 4.x (since FreeBSD seems to be lagging behind a bit)...

I currently have a K6-2 300, 384M memory, 2940 SCSI controller with 1 disk, 2 IDE disks and a DE500 network adapter.

Funny thing is it used to have a 3c905 in it, but if I put heavy load on the card the kernel would panic. The DE500 is much more stable.

I was wondering if people could post computer specs for there computers running FreeBsd.

Specs on my current server. The SiS735 chipset and onboard LAN aren't quite fully supported in 4.4, but that system has been running 24/7 without a crash since I put FreeBSD on it in late October.

As soon as I get a chance, I intend to transfer the system over to this hardware, as I've had FreeBSD running fine on it before and the K7S5A/Duron machine needs to have windows installed so it can go to my parents' house.

ftp4you, I personally think it would be a waste of that hardware to run FreeBSD. It already has support in Windows, and Windows is a better desktop OS anyway.

Check my rigs, it ran on lordfoul a year or so ago. I prefer OpenBSD so that is what I currently have running on the machine.

I don't think his intention is to run a pretty OS that has a better desktop... I think they guy's more into learning... at least that's what I gather for his other posts.

I run FreeBSD 4.4-STABLE and just upgraded to 4.5-PRELEASE this weekend on my main workstation:
2x933MHz PIII / ABIT VP-6 motherboard
4x256MB PC133 RAM
IBM 75GB 7200RPM IDE
Maxtor 60GB 5400RPM IDE
HP 9110i burner
Pioneer 16x DVD drive
Matrox G450 32MB Dual Head
SB Live!
2x 3Com 3C905B-TXNM 10/100 NICs

all is working nicely. Have some issues with the ata(4) drivers and my onboard HPT366 controller wrt UDMA ICRC errors when heavy disk access occurs, but everything else works ok. Use mplayer or xine + libcss to watch DVDs in X. Playback looks great on the G450. SB Live! support provided via pcm driver in the kernel.

I had problems with FreeBSD and my vp6. The BIOS did not seem to like the harddrive and would only recognize 2GB of the 30GB drive. Any hints (although I will probably keep Debian on there for now).

Was this on the HPT366 UDMA controller or the standard IDE controller? I have a 75GB and a 60GB as PRI/SLAVE on the UDMA controller and my DVD/CD-RW drives on the regular IDE channels. BIOS recognizes everything fine. IBM/Maxtor HDs. What kind of hard drive was this?

Master on secondary controller. I could not boot off of cd with the hard drive as master on the primary controller. I stayed away from the HPT controller, although I tried it once and it had the same problem. Its a Maxtor 30GB. I also applied the latest BIOS (got it from one of the vp6 sites). I also saw a rumor that it didnt like Maxtor drives but I couldnt find much more information. I also think I need to replace the cmos battery, but I havent gotten around to it.
