Ack, be careful signing up for this if you're already in a trial or something. It didn't just add on a year to my membership... my membership now ends a year from today so my 1/2 month left of my trial disappeared

If you paid for an Amazon Prome membership already then sign up as a student you get a refund on your remaining time left for your old Prime Membership.

After signing up for the student Prime, I just got an email confirming they were refunding me $52 for the Prime membership I already paid for. Sweet, thanks OP!

For those of you who have a .edu address that you don't want spammed, don't worry -- the spam will go to your address on your account, which does not have to be your .edu address...of course it's also the one that order confirmations will go to as well.

If your .edu e-mail address isn't listed on your Amazon.com account, that's OK. The only e-mail we'll send to your .edu e-mail address is the verification e-mail. After that, other Amazon Student e-mails will be sent to the e-mail address listed on your Amazon.com account.

However, as with most deals like this, if you have an .edu address but aren't actually a student, they reserve the right to ask you to provide proof of enrollment, and if you can't/don't:

We may ask you to furnish documentation supporting your eligibility. If you do not provide documentation indicating that you meet the eligibility requirements above, you may be required to reimburse us for benefits you received as a result of your Amazon Student membership.

Whether they'd actually do that or not is a good question.

You should recieve an email automatically from Amazon showing that your old Prime membership was cancelled and they are issuing a pro-rated refund. Obviously this is not guarenteed but it happened to me. The actual text from the email is below.

(from ahmadka: The second your new Prime membership is activated to get an email that your old prime is cancelled and that you would be receiving a refund within 2-3 days .. I got about $60 back ! )

Your Amazon Prime membership has been canceled, per your request.

Since you received benefits on a small number of items, you will be issued a refund of $39.50 for the remaining months of your membership.
