Anyone know if this auto-renews? I've had the Prime trial before and it was set to automatically upgrade (and cost me money), but I don't see the option anywhere after signing up for this.

It doesn't auto renew, and even if it was setup to renew it's 2 clicks on your Prime page to disable auto renew... so it should never be a problem.

If you paid for an Amazon Prome membership already then sign up as a student you get a refund on your remaining time left for your old Prime Membership.

After signing up for the student Prime, I just got an email confirming they were refunding me $52 for the Prime membership I already paid for. Sweet, thanks OP!

That's excellent. Above and beyond what most companies would do, kudos to Amazon for this program.

Anyone know if this is a temporary deal or a permanent one?

It's only good for one year. Like the title says..

I believe DrunkenSano was asking if this is a permanent offer (i.e. you can sign up for the 1-year Prime at any time), or if this is a special promotion that will go away in the near future.

After looking through all the terms and conditions on the site, it doesn't seem to indicate either way. There is no "must sign up by..." or anything of that nature to indicate that this deal will expire in the near future. They do indicate, however, that they may cancel the deal at any time (which seems to include canceling your Prime account at any time as well, even before the year, although I would doubt that they would do that).

Sorry for the vague wording, HarvardAce interpreted my question correctly. Tempted to use my alumni email to sign up for it but it would be even better if I could do the trial, then the one year free for a longer Prime sub.

What do you get out of amazon prime anyways?

You fail at googling/reading........you get free 2 day shipping on any item that is sold by Amazon. And cheap 1 day shipping if you want it really fast.

But only on products that are sold directly by Amazon and not 3rd party companies that sell on Amazon.

This part is annoying... I want to buy sunglasses, but Amazon doesn't sell the pair i want, yet they have like 10 other sellers who do... and free shipping would be freaking nice...

hopefully amazon stocks my text books for next semester

I looked at the page and that's what it said on it. I just can't imagine paying 80 dollars for something that just allows me free shipping. Great if you use amazon a lot, but I really don't.
I was just making sure it didn't come with some other stuff that it didn't list on their page.

Please try to be less rude.

What shitty college were you able to graduate from without being able to read? The deal is for students, not alumni.

Prime is easily worth $80 a year. I didn't buy a ton of stuff from Amazon before I had Prime, but I do now. Amazon has great prices on a lot of stuff, and being able to get it in 2 days is much better than a week or more. It saves me a lot of trips to Target. 86 orders in 2009.

Also, some third party sellers use Amazon for fulfillment, prime works with them.
