In addition, you will also receive free antivirus and firewall trial software.
Heh heh..There are the people who are bringing you the free shipping..Good deal to at least have most updates on CD instead of having to D/L them everytime you do a fresh Windows install.
Just sign up for the security update e-mail. They'll send you a direct link to download it, rather than via windows update.
I think you missed my point in the fact that it is probably the anti-virus and firewall software companies footing the bill for the free shipping. I'm quite aware of the e-mails and links, But thank you for pointing it out for others who may not know.
I don't think that this is being paid for by a third party, this is probably MS antivirus and firewall trial software. It is cool for those on narrowband to be able to get the updates.

Edit: well, I guess not...

The internet security software is the EZ Armor from CA as I thought. Anyone have any exprience with it? I used the AV a long time ago when it was free for personal use (and called InnoculateIT) and it was pretty good then, at least I thought so.

Why use the MS Critical Update CD when there is the Autopatcher?

A lot of people have asked, "Why Patch our system?" or "Why AutoPatcher?". Well, I thought this would be a good opportunity to explain to you why we exist. Well, first of all, here's an Article for you to read:

Microsoft has a message for Windows users: Patch your computers quickly.

As you can see in that article, there are a lot of vulnerabilities out there, that many people don't know they have. Patching your system reduces the chance you'll be affected by a virus (like Blaster) or Hackers exploiting problematic code. Now Microsoft does ask everyone turn on Critical Updates, but for people on Dial-up, that could be a hassle. Also, some of their patches don't even show up on it! They've also released a Security CD, but that too doesn't contain everything, in fact, it only contains Critical Updates through October! That still leaves many people with holes in their Operating System. That's where we come in. The AutoPatcher is designed to quickly patch a system with the most current updates (and tweaks) available. It runs silently in the background, and needs no inputs once started. It just has to be downloaded once, then burnt to a CD, and you can patch as many systems as you want, with no extra bandwidth usage (for you companies that pay for it), and also for you users who have friends, family, and relatives on Dial-up.

All in all, I feel the AutoPatcher is a very useful product, and can help many people stay updated, and not have to worry about vulnerabilities. If you haven't already, give it a try. Download a copy or order a CD... see why so many people have already started AutoPatching.
