You get all the security updates through Oct. 2003.

Here's an excerpt from the offer page:
"The Windows Security Update CD will be shipped to you free of charge. This CD includes Microsoft critical updates released through October 2003 and information to help you protect your PC. In addition, you will also receive free antivirus and firewall trial software (it's a one-year free license for eTrust's (CA) EZ Armor).

"This CD is only available for Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and Windows 98 Second Edition (SE)."

Just sign up for the security update e-mail. They'll send you a direct link to download it, rather than via windows update.

You wouldn't say that if you were on dial up at 26400 😉

I signed up to have one sent to my home and a couple to work. I already have most of them burned to a CD anyways but it never hurts to have good, solid duplicates 🙂

Link for that? (I never can find anything on Microsoft's website)
Edit: Grr, i still can't find where you can download the update directly.

They're going to start sending them out and making them available in coffee shops and whatnot.

If AOL can use it to reach the idiots of the world MS can too. It's the idiots out there that don't even realize there ARE patches that are the real reason for these outbreaks. Clever idea, should work.

I think you missed my point in the fact that it is probably the anti-virus and firewall software companies footing the bill for the free shipping. I'm quite aware of the e-mails and links, But thank you for pointing it out for others who may not know.

it's a pretty cool idea from ms...i just wish it was updated a little more recent than october..but oh well. i use the xp autopatcher anyway 🙂

Does the XP autopatcher also include registry tweaks ? I dont know... there doesnt seem to be be whole list of what the program does exactly...

I received the disks a few days ago and found that it included Win2k SP4 along with the other stuff. I had just ordered and paid for a SP4 CD from M$ a couple of days prior to ordering this disk set. Not a happy camper! I have requested info on returning the paid disk for a refund - fat chance..

The internet security software is the EZ Armor from CA as I thought. Anyone have any exprience with it? I used the AV a long time ago when it was free for personal use (and called InnoculateIT) and it was pretty good then, at least I thought so.

The disk also has: Direct X 9.x, MediaPlayer 7.1 and 9.x, IE 6SP1, XP SP1a, M$ Data Access Components 2.8, etc. All in all nearly 500MB of stuff that I won't have to DL again.

Got mine last week and had a chance to use it on a friends system this last sunday. While it is not completely up to date, It got us close enough to really cut down on the needed dowloads from Windows update. Not only does it have the Security updates, It has WMP9(If you really want it) and DirectX9. That is two big download savers right there.
Haven't tried the anti-virus or firewall software yet.
