I got the mail yesterday and saw a small package with just a return address. I felt it and thought..."I finally got my drive from Microsoft!!!!" and then when I opened the package, I found the pack of Dentyne gum I got from another thread. Oh well...got my hopes up for nothing!

Then again, free gum is good, too!

Heh, the exact thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was pretty bummed too. Gum is good though.

MS may have trouble trying to get those old 16mb flash chips, so it might be easier to simply send out the most economical size they can get; ie. bigger 😉

not sure how many usb drives microsoft should give away but..

manufacturing mask-rom costs about $50000-$70000. If the volume is large enough, they might give away non-programmable usb drives. mask-rom usb drive is just
useless for us though.

LOL, happened to me last week.

I also just received my free flashlight from those BHP people.

I'd assume that Microsoft accumulated everybody's thumb drive orders during the sign-up period, then after sign-up ended, placed one large purchase order for them all together a factory somewhere, say maybe in Taiwan, Thailand, China, ....

Plus you have to allow for transit time from the country of origin to here, maybe by ocean boat rather than airfreight.

Then at some distribution center they need time to breakdown the big shipping container & processing individual mailings to each signer-upper.

I expect that regardless whether we signed up early or late with MS, we'll all receive the thumb drives within the same week or two.

Hey things take time. Appreciate the freebie! It will be useful to me!
