Battlezone 1998 is free to play now. And one of the original developers has been keeping it up to date for modern PCs, the last update was only 2 weeks ago.

I know it's posted somewhere in this thread, but lately I've been playing UFO:AI. It's a free and almost a true spiritual successor to XCOM: UFO Defense. Definitely check it out if you enjoyed XCOM.

There seem to be little detail around what happened, but on the Freeciv's wiki there are some pages (particularly this one) which say it is temporarily reachable from another address (http://freeciv-debian.ns0.it/forum). I haven't found more details.

It explicitly tells you what is wrong with it.

The server hosting forum.freeciv.org stopped responding around 16 March (just before we were going to back it up, of course). We're waiting for the owner to recover the physical box and find out what's happened to it, and in particular whether the old forum database can be recovered, before we put up a new forum. With luck we should know either way within a couple of weeks, but the timescale is not entirely in our control. We'll post news on the wiki and probably here when we have it. We apologise for the inconvenience.
