I should have bribed people for their Vista previews.
I'm taking a few $20s along for just such an occasion.
Ohh, and if someone leaves their table to use the facilities, I am all over that bag !! Better take it with you or I'll make it disappear.

Well that is a fine and dandy, but who wants a beta? Well, it seems as though the key they issued is good for Vista Ultimate RTM!!!. Other users have run the winver command and there is no mention of any expiration. So, forget the DVD that was bundled. Keep the key and enter that into any Vista DVD. Now that I think about it, I should have bribed people for their Vista previews.

Can anyone else confirm that this worked for them as well? Where does winver say anything about expiration? I am looking on a non-activated (no serial entered) install of vista and I don't see anything mentioned on this screen (and it will for sure expire in 30 days).

It should also be noted that inside the bag is a card/flyer offering a discounted upgrade copy of Vista Home Premium for $49 (limit 2).

If that key in the Vista eval. packet is a real Vista Ultimate key, then I'm going to order a copy or 2 of the Vista Home Premium upgrade. So for $49, I get a copy of Vista Ultimate *and* Vista Home Premium.

Awesome.

Keep in mind that you'll only get additional keys for installation with the purchase. You'll not be getting actual retail package in the mail. What you get is new keys for the Home Premium, and you'll need to use your own retail dvd for installation.

Has anyone determined whether the key in the evaluation package is really a Vista Ultimate key? Where can I get more information on this?

I went to the event in Madison, Wisconsin. I am employed by the University of Wisconsin, but also have a self-employed business. I happened to register with my University account and was told that if "you receive a government check" you cannot get any of the handouts...not even a cookie! I tried to explain that my UW position was 50% and could I please re-register through my own business...NO! I got Office 2003 last go-round no problem. I am less than pleased with MegaSoft at this moment. There is nothing posted on the website when registering that indicates you cannot get the software, only that you can only use it for "evaluation purposes."

Suggestion for all of those yet to attend: When they ask you if you are a government emplyee...just say no!

Do they charge to attend these events ? ?
Also for Office Pro 2007 is that a full use key
or is it limited in any way, such as time or features ? ?

I missed the closest event to me in Secaucus, NJ
so if I decided to go it would need to be Hauppauge, NY

Events are free. But some people have to pay for parking. Key is for a full MSO Pro Plus with no time limits.

As far a others with Vista keys/discs; we had nothing like that provided in the Cincinnati Small Bus. sections.

I got around to installing vista tonight (I used a RTM disc) but used the key from the Vista Ultimate pre-release. It did activate, but I have no idea what to look for to see if there is a time limitation. (For example, I think the RC releases expired by a certain date, right?)

To determine when your pre-RTM build will expire, type winver at the cmd prompt. That provides you with the date that the system will turn over to limited functionality mode (or may not even allow you to login, as had been mentioned elsewhere).

Will check my calendar to see if I can make the March date in Hauppauge.
It is easier to go there than into Manhattan for a conference.
One quick query ... on the new Office 2007 is it still allowed to be on more
than one computer ? ? I think Office allows for 2 or 3 pcs with same key.

Also what happens if you uninstall it, move it to another computer and then
reinstall ? ? Does it or MS somehow know that you still have not exceeded
the allowed number of computers it is installed on ? ? Or do you need to call
in to reactivate ? ?

I installed the windws vista disk that came in my bag from this program the 5840 build. I type winver and there is no mention of a "turn off" date there, so this key may not have a limited time usage.

Would changing the computers time to 1 year from now test this? Would i have to change the time in the bios to test this or just in windows?

Also, sincei never had any previous release candidates, can someone who did have an RC version comment as to what they see when they to a "winver".

Thanks.

I had also tried winver and didn't see anything about a shut off (I used the key from the pre-release, but I used a RTM disc to install)

I also did a

slmgr.vbs -dlv

And it did not mention a time limitation either.

RuffRyder1672 can you try this slmgr command on yours and see what it says.

Also, i set my clock ahead to 2008 and rebooted and i still don't see a time limitiation.

No vista disks at the afternoon Partner or developer event in Cincinnati either. this was one of the biggest turnouts for a microsoft event in Cincy for a long time.

I have RC2 installed on my laptop (which shows a March '07 time limitation under winver and 'activated' in My Computer) and RTM installed on my desktop with no key entered on install (which shows no time limitation under winver but 30 days [now 23] time limit in My Computer).

So... I think it's pretty reasonable to conclude that if you're not seeing any time limitations in either of those two areas that they're passing out full fledged keys at these MS events. (it'd obviously be advantageous to have an RTM disc to install with as RuffRyder has done).

Either way it looks like a pretty sweet deal IF you don't toss those 'eval' discs/keys away! :D

OK .. so that means it probably needs either 2 CD's or 1 DVD
Are the downloads on an FTP or regular slow download link ? ?

The downloads are through the website, and they come down at a reasonable speed. Just let it download and go get lunch or something :)

Do they provide the link when they give us the key at the conference
or can we get the link earlier to download and burn the cd ? ?
