free linspire linux until 09-06

thanks, I've been meaning to check them out again for giggles. They had a free offer a year ago or so, but didn;t like it at the time. Not holding my breath this time around either, but what the heck, it's free!

I was able to "purchase" using the stated coupon code. Cost to me: $0.

However I am unable to figure out how to download the ISO using a Windows Bittorrent client.

The download instructions on the Linspire site explain how to download Linspire Five-0 from Linspire. The instructions also claim you can download it from Windows using Bittornado. However they don't provide a way to obtain the .tor file needed for the Windows-based download.

Has anyone had any success downloading Five-0 from Windows?

All you need is any bittorent client (Bitcomet, Bittornado, etc...) and there is a link right on the page to download the torrent file. I had no problem downloading from Windows.

That's the problem: there is *no* link on the My.Download page.

Which version of Windows are you running? Are you using a standalone Bittorrent client or an IE plugin? If plugin, which one?

I was able to purchase and download the torrent file. It's starting to go at 8KB/s w/ a green light, and will likely speed up. Did anyone else who purchased it for FREE with the coupon code need the torrent?

Just a FYI if you did this a few months ago, it "sounds" like the same package, 5.0., but I am in there pounding on the site with the rest of the world.

I am having ZERO luck getting through the web site, I get to checkout and it never makes it to the next page.

Would it be legal or work for someone to post a torrent link?

Wow this took hours to finally finalize my account, now just starting to hurry up and wait for the download 96 ahead of me )-: I am paying for this just not with $$$

Gonna take 2 days on BT ... haha what a joke ... LINSPIRE.COM SAYS "HEY ALL YOU SUCKERS COME GRAB A COPY FOR FREE!" ||| LINSPIRE.COM WHISPERS "hehehe we will only provide 8kbps upload on our servers" ||| RESULTS = Hardly anyone will put up with this nonsense.

got it, thanks.
So that it doesn't take you two day, get the Bittorrent download.
Is taking me about 2-3 hours, 35kbs rate or so.

I managed to get an account created earlier, but the checkout process wouldn't go through. Now when I sign-in and try the "Order" button, I get:

Around 9:30 PM PST the site just started working fine for me and I am now well into the torrent download.

March of 2005 appears to be the build date, which seems OLD to me, but maybe I don't know how to read it or what it means.

Not to hijack the thread, but if somebody thinks they know of a better free distro, why not post it?

I like this site of run from a burnt CD distro, http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php

I thought I'd try this distro, but no joy. Even now at 4am this is all I can get. I also tried early last night. Is anyone getting it now?

First register via the normal linspire.com url, be persistent, I got that message about 5 times in each stage, and just clicked back and tried the operation again.

Register, get logged in (seems like you stay logged once you manage to get through it), THEN follow the free link, and again be persistent, press back and try again. My plan was just to get the torrent started and then go to bed.

I am at about 59% with about 35k/sec rate. Only reason I am not already done is that my retard Time Warner Cable modem stopped working for a couple hours.

Tried a couple of dozen times, managed to get it in the shopping cart and thats as far as I get. 🙁

Funny thing is all the rest of their website seems to work just fine... Must be the 486 server they are directing all the freebies to isn't up to the load... :Q

Thanks for the heads up OP... I just read the email from Kevin Carmony. 😉

BTW, at the bottom of this page is the instructions on d/l your Free copy... in case you are having a hard time figuring it out. 😕
