FYI, the keyboards are serial

I have never heard of a serial keyboard. I would think it would be dual connection, with the keyboard connection being the normal PS2 type, but the reader having a serial connection. I would assume you could just leave off the reader part if you just wanted to use the keyboard.

This link for installation shows that you're right about the 2 connectors.
