"The price for the 1.5Mbps/384Kbps consumer service remains the same as it was for the 1.5Mbps/128Kbps service -- $29.95 a month when purchased as part of a package of local and long-distance calling services or $34.95 a month for stand-alone DSL service."

She said but look at the 3rd paragraph and how it's business DSL. She kept telling me that her sales agent told her that I HAD to switch to Business DSL at the price of $59.99 to get the 384 down. What a crock. I kept pushing her and she basically told me the website was dead wrong and it was misleading. I decided I had wasted enough of my time with this ignorant person and finished the call with her.

I called back, told the new agent the same story and I was off the phone in 5 min ending with her saying that I'd have 384 in a few days.

Anyway don't let them talk you out of it, it's probably just a dumbass agent that dosen't know what she's talking about.
you're too smart for the agent. tricky eh?

I tried to call again today. I am still to far but now I'm @ 15,457ft; yesterday I was @ 15,947ft. Maybe tomorrow I'll be at 14,800ft. :D I tried to convince the Rep but she says there is no way to override & put it through.

Does anyone know of a way to contact some higher-ups @ verizon about this???

Interesting, i'm 15833 and have 1.5/128. I tried calling yesterday and they said that I couldn't get the upgrade since the 768/128 was the highest I could get.....I had to tell them I don't have that package.....she said she'd look in to it and call me back in about an hour.

I never heard from them. Will probably give them a call again tonight.

I just called Verizon and they quickly forwarded me to the correct department. The lady on the phone immediately took my number and was already checking availability as I asked her about the package. She was shocked so many calls were coming in and was curious how I had known about it! Well, I'll soon be at 1.5/384. No word on the 3mbps download from what I'm reading here it looks like we just need to wait a month or so. Thanks!

I now know that Verizon's standard speed is 1.5mbit, and in certain cases they could upgrade your speed through the phone line. So I called them, but they stated that it could not be done with my current modem and that I will have to buy a new one. I'd much rather buy a used one for now since their's would most likely be expensive. So I bought a Westell Wirespeed 2100 used from someone on the boards here. So I should be able to get 1.5mbit now. However, how will I have them upgrade my download speed to 3mbit since they will say I don't qualify because they will think I am using the older RA14. Maybe the RA14 can even work with 1.5mbit, because someone told me they had an RA14 and 1.5mbit. Maybe the CSR I talked to was just lazy and didn't want to do the upgrade.

The client DSL modem that you use, really shouldn't matter, as long as it supports the service, and is capable of whatever maximum line rate that you are provisioned for. DSL line-rate provisioning is done by the upstream, and is not "capped" at the modem, like cable modems are. For those, often, to re-provision line speeds, they need to modify parameters stored in the cablemodem's firmware. DSL isn't like that.

Done. Sat on the crapper while on hold for about 7 minutes. 12,700ft from the CO. My package was supposed to be billed at the $29.95 rate, however the rep told me (when I asked) that I was being billed at the $34.95 rate - which she then changed for me.

Also beware - Verizon DSL subscribers will as of this month be seeing a $2.47 additional monthly charge to their bills in the form of the FUSF fee (look it up on www.fcc.gov). According to the rep, this bill fee is new - previously it was being paid for by Verizon itself. They apparently want to share the cost with the customers now.

Called in. Rep was cool. All done. They said it would take anywhere from 1-5 days for it to take effect though.

How'd you get the price drop? Do you already have one of Verizon's landline packages?

the last time my cable company did something like this (free bandwidth increase), they changed the subscription package in a few months, and at that point you have to either choose to upgrade to a higher bandwidth package and pay more, or stay with your current fee but lost a lot of bandwidth (even less than from before the free offer).

it might be a trick guys.

I'm currently having problems with my speed(497/76 on a 768/128 line), & just finally got them to agree to up it to 1.5. They told me the new upload speed was not yet available in my area(elmhurst, ny), & I should check back next month. They also told me that I cannot get the new $29.95 base price, since the employee discount I already receive($5), disqualifies me from any special promotions.

Ehh, at least verizon doesn't have a download cap.

SCHWEET!!!

The change to the upload of x/368K took less than 48 Hours, at least it feels like it. Could someone recommend a Speed tester site that will tell me what the upload is, BESIDES DSLREPORTS.com??

I also called today after I saw on the Verizon.com site that they are now charging $29.95 for new DSL customers, w/ a free month of service. When I called them, they said they couldn't switch me over to the new plan, BUT they did give me 1 FREE month of service. BUT I heard other folks who called them up and waz Really nice about it and they switched them over to the $29.95 new price.

I'm gonna try again.

Called them up and got the upgrade in like, 10 mins tops. Beautiful.

Now, do I call them again to request the price drop too from $34 to $29?
Man, with the upload increase, the lower price and then a possible download increase...GG, Verizon. :)

I am in the same boat as a few other posters here. I have had Verizon DSL since 99 (thru GTE at the time) and tried to get in on the 1500 upgrade a while back. My CO is still using the old Frame Relay technology, so canceling my account and hoping for a new ATM capable DSL modem was not going to help, simply because the existing equipment on THEIR end was not capable of 1500 speeds to my location. When I asked how I could find out if the CO would be upgrading to ATM, I was told that Verizon no longer gave an approximate date seeing as how they had missed many deadlines in the past and customers were getting upset when told to expect it by such and such a date. They now send out the ATM upgrades which arrive at the CO's doorstep and are simply installed at that point.
I usually wait 6 months and call them back, hoping for a new DSL modem and a faster U/L speed. I was thinking of switching to cable modem but Verizon has offered yet another 'carrot' to a hungry bunny.

Edit: Hmmm... I am being told that my account is that old, bought back in the GTE days as a 'retail' account, that I cannot be set up with anything faster than what I currently have. I now have to dial the local CO and inquire as to the location and availability of an ATM CO in my area. I would probably lose service for 10 days while they dump the old account and enable the new one ... :frown:

Edit2: YaY !! Got ahold of a very informative CSR at Verizon who has finally eliminated my Frame Relay retail account and set me up with a new modem and ATM service, plus a free month, PLUS dropped my monthly bill $5 to $29.95 !! :D I have to deal with 10 days offline but to double my speed, I will GLADLY do it. If anyone needs a helpful CSR, contact John at 800-567-6789 ext. 5083

As you stated, I also had DSL since a while ago. I have called Verizon earlier and asked them to upgrade my 768 to 1.5. However, the CSR I got then was either misinformed or lazy. He told me it was my modem (A fujistsu Speeport RA14) that wasn't allowing the upgrade. He told me I qualified for the upgrade, but I would need a new modem. So with that information. I bought a new modem online. However, still no 1.5. At that time, I didn't know that it doesn't matter on my modem. I just called again right now, and like you, got a very helpful CSR. In fact, I believe it was John (but not sure). Anyways, he told me I liveonly 4000 feet from the CO. Meaning I will get great speeds. However, he told me that I am on a transfer relay, and I have to get on an ATM. It is available, but I will have to cancel and my account. Meaning I will be down for about 10 days. I don't mind canceling. I just thought I'd wait until Monday to cancel. Since they're not open on the weekends, and if I cancelled now it will probaly be around 13 days. So, I am glad that I now know I can and will get 1.5/384 (and soon 3.0/384). Anyways, I now have Westell Wirespeed ADSL modem that I bought for $35, and I don't even need it.
