Frannie, this is not my opinion.

Artemis is a Greek goddess. Look in the dictionary. Look in the encyclopedia. Hell, ask anyone with half a clue. (Not your husband. He obviously doesn't know any better.)

Next time, please marry a guy with a half decent name.

Wig, Frannie, thanks for the laughs.

I love it.

This is how we scored it at home

Wiggles = 9.5 / 10

FrAnnie = 2.5 / 10*

Frannie, your comeback lines need some serious work.

<< Frannie, your comeback lines need some serious work. >>

Trifecta, I must take issue with you here. You are being unfair to Frannie. This is because the typical MyPoopon never needs to use a comeback line.

In the face of adversity, the typical MyPoopon sticks her head up her ass and pretends that nothing unpleasant has ever happened. (Nothing unpleasant, that is, except the smell. But the typical MyPoopon is strong in the face of adversity and pretends that there is no smell.)

So, you see, all this talk about comeback lines is quite out of place. You should have seen it coming from a mile away when Frannie started all that talk about my brain going in her ass. It was all comforting imagery for her.

Oh, by the way, Frannie hasn't posted for the past three hours. I expect she won't be available for the next 12 hours or so, either. Three guesses as to where she stuck her head.

Hey Wiggie,
Can you please be a little clearer for us? So it's in the Dial up properties under which tab and options?
Thanks.

Wiggles,

you obviously think that you are some sort of 'hacker' who knows how to defeat banner advertisements. this sort of 'hack' has been around a while now and some ISP's (Netzero) have employed technology to kick you off the server if the banners are not loaded (i have a copy of the email, if you want it). also, i do not encourage you people to attempt this because this is the only way the ISP makes money. how do you think they supply you with free service? by selling advertisement space. if you dont like the bannners, pay $20 for a real ISP. if everyone starts cheating the service, soon there will be no more service. you are in effect cheating yourselves out of free service in the future.

now wiggles, because you feel that you are in some ways superior to the others in this forum, i say you tone it down. this is a forum for Hot Deals. if you cant read the title, maybe you are the one with the head in your ass. just because you have your leet0 free isp w/out banner advertisments doesnt make better than the rest of the people here and give you the right to call them MyPoopons. not everyone goes looking through their Connection Properties to make a log, review it, figure out what the username/password is, decrypt the password if needed, and try to connect through DUN. people are here to find good deals. so you can take your arrogant self some place else.

illusionm8,

I may or may not be superior, but I sure as hell am not preaching my morals to others from my holy soapbox like you are. I am, however, offering up some valuable knowledge which allows people to review their PERSONAL information coming to or leaving from their PERSONAL computer. It is a valuable skill to be able to do this for a great many reasons, how people choose to use this knowledge is their business.

P.S. MyPoopons is AnandSpeak for members of our beloved sisters at MyCoupons. It seems you chose to mistake the meaning.

illusionm8,

For your info, the latest revision of NetZero kicks you off if you don't click on an ad within a certain amount of time. (Half an hour I think) It has nothing to do with banners loading at all. They FORCE you to clickthrough, and if you honestly have no interest in the ads being shown, and don't want to click, well tough luck, no Internet for you. They disconnect you right there and then.

Altavista tried this when they first came out with what they called a Health Meter. There was this little bar ticking ticking ticking down and if it ticked down to zero before you could click on an ad, then you would get disconnected. If you clicked on an ad, then the Health Meter would fill up, and then continue ticking ticking ticking down.

Of course this was totally unacceptable for things like online gaming, and totally annoying. Users flocked to other free ISP's. Why should you put up with annoying crap like this when there are better alternatives? Well, guess what? Altavista removed this "feature" from their latest revision.

My personal opinion is that NetZero's forced clicks are completely obnoxious even when compared to other free ISP's with banners i.e. Juno or Altavista or freei.net or what have you. NetZero is following a Microsoftlike embrace-and-extend strategy, which I find reprehensible. I hope that they fail miserably, just to prove that you don't succeed by alienating and inconveniencing your customers in order to improve your bottom line.

ifreedom.com has free internet where they have a banner, but if you click on an ad you get 20 minutes with no ads(unless they changed it, i dunno), so thats a pretty good deal. It's not that annoying to click three times in an hour and be undisturbed by ads the rest of the time.

I love how frannie acts like she's so smart and sophisticated yet she insists on trying to cut wiggles down. Apparently she is getting her cut downs from her 1 year old who's so.. so... small that she probably has to have someone else change her diaper for her... and still can't walk! Yeah thats the ticket.

Just for the information of everyone, it is quite easy (i.e. if you know how to do it) to get rid of the banner in NetZero and be connected for as long as you want without ever looking at a banner (or clicking one).

Though I am not going to share the details here, I can tell this much that the info is easily available ... ask someone who owns a Dreamcast and uses a free ISP :)

here is part of the email:

Allow me to clearly state what the above statement is implying.

Any action to defeat or disable, or conduct that facilitates defeating or disabling, any functionality of the NetZero Services or alters the look, feel or functionality of the NetZero Site or user interface is prohibited by the NetZero user policy. (My emphasis)

Well, guess what? I don't give a rat's ass about some arbitrary policy of some arbitrary company. A policy is what it sounds like it is: A set of guidelines that a company or non-governmental organization has drafted for itself and/or its users. A policy carries absolutely NO legal standing in any court, in any country.

---

Well, guess what? We DO care about a company's policy, but we don't give a rat's ass about thieves. YOU ARE OUT OF HERE.

AnandTech Moderator

If a user violates a company's policy, the company's sole option is to possibly deny service to that user for noncompliance with its policy. As a legally recognized entity, a company does have the right to deny service to certain people as long as this is done on nondiscriminiatory grounds. (Race, gender, and all that good stuff cannot be part of company policy) So, um, wait. A free ISP cancels an account a few months down the line, IF they ever realize that the user is not abiding by their policy. (Fat chance) IF they ever do this, it takes the non-abiding user all of five minutes to log on and make himself a new free account. Repeat a few months down the line.

I, personally, don't see a problem. NetZero can go and stick their arbitrary and self-serving company policy up their corporate ass. I have no respect for an institution that FORCES users to click on ads although they have no genuine interest to do so.

P.S. Frannie, I was bantering with you for amusement. I have nothing against you personally. But believe me, you are not earning any brownie points with the Anand crowd by acting out the self-righteous MyPoopon stereotype that we so dearly love to hate. If you loosen up, you'll make more friends on here. (Whether your virgin huntress Greek goddess of a husband approves of this or not is not for us to know.)

frannie, who cares... wiggles obviously has poor social skills and most likely spends most of his life on his PC... and making himself feel superior by insulting others. It is a psychological thing. No happy person in this world who is confident and satisfied with life would treat people like he does. Miserable and pathetic people try to make others feel bad... so they feel better about themselves. Any intelligent person knows that his behavior is improper and a sign of psychological problems in his life. There is no reason to even fight back with people like him. He acts with no respect towards others and the vast majority of people in this world if they were to read this post would agree. And the fact that ghetto buck would even insult you while using a one year old is disgusting and pure evidence of the mentality and intelligence of these people. And ?these people? will get nowhere in life and will not achieve as much happiness as the rest of us. So, let them talk and be miserable and some day die. There loss. Thankfully, this world is not lead by such character.

dc: In case you were replying to my post ... NO, you don't need any special modem, a regular 56K works just fine ! And in case it was not clear in my earlier post, you can use the same method to access bannerless NetZero using the DC as well as a PC !
