Free Delivery Confirmation when you use USPS Priorirty mail

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember a thread where people were having problems with this (Conf was not updating on website, or they would not scan when the item was brought to PO for shipping) Perhaps someone remembers better than I do and can enlighten us?

 
the dc is assigned a number on the website. it does not show up on the online website until the package has been delivered.....

that was my experience. annoying really.

many times the delivery person doesnt scan the bar code when the package is delivered, so u never know if it got there or not.
 
once in a while i see this one post. and eventhough it's a repost, there still lots of people doesnot know it. some repost is good

This is a great service and well worth it when you ebay...

It is "Delivery Confirmation", and NOT tracking --- Which is why you don't see anything until it is finally delivered...Unlike UPS where you can actually track shipping points along the way.
 
I have mailed dozens of packages using this label.

It works fine.

Some postal clerks try to scan it when you take it to the counter. It won't scan. Tell them it isn't necessary, the delivery scan is all that is needed since it is already in the computer.

Contrary to reports from other here, customer-printed DCs have worked very well for me. Well over 90% of my packages have arrived within the service standard for the mail class and were scanned on arrival.

When you generate the label, a record is added to the DC database at 10pm that evening. The record says something like "The USPS was notified by the shipper to expect your package...". When the package is delivered, you get a regular "DELIVERED" record.

You can also print discounted e/Confirmations for all classes of package services if you use the free USPS Shipping Assistant

Anyone who plans to present items with e/Confirmations at retail service windows should probably print page 17 of Postal Bulletin 22055 and page 10 of Postal Bulletin 22061. Those two documents include cover everything window employees need to know about how to handle the labels.

 
Yeah it's a repost. I use this everytime I ship and it's worked flawlessly for me. I used it 4 times last week and everyone of them shows up on the website as delivered so maybe the issues with it are worked out.

A tip is to use a green marker to circle the bar code part to remind the USPS carrier to scan the package according. It worked great to me.


For the normal delivery confirmation(not free, you need to fill a green form at post office and pay .43), the post office need to scan the bar code to put the code into the USPS database. Then the bar code will be scanned only when it is delivered. That is "Delivery Confirmation" come from. This is what my post office lady told me.

For the e-delivery confirmation, the USPS system generate the number and put it into the database after you fill the form at USPS.com. There is no need for the post office to scan the bar code any more. The only scanning would be at the time the package is delivered.
 
i go to the same campus usps post office with the free DC, and everytime, they look puzzled and ask me why it is free. slightly annoying, but the $.30 barely makes up for it.

this deal is dead has been for awhile, and shows what a pain the usps is! there is a paper making the rounds at the post office, when i get it i will post the reasons. but for now on the they must charge for the dc. i keep making a big fuss everytime i use it, because its still easy to use the printout, because your paying for something that is suppose to be free, then your not getting full use of it, website not updating right, cant use call in feature so if anyone is still getting them free good for you but in will be a short time before it stops
 
I just shipped some stuff out with this last week and it worked fine for me. It shows up in their tracking system as "electronic notification accepted on such and such a date" when you fill it out online. Then once its delivered, they scan it and the results have been up on the web page for me. (usually) The labels are great anyway. <grin>

Im using a UPS invoice packet to put it in though lol o well
btw, if you sign up for an account at ups.com you can then order all of the shipping supplies you want (thats what i did)
 
Wow, now lets just see if that package delivers. I am almost completely convenced that FedEx is the only carrier thats worth a $1 anymore. (just had about a total of 7 packages LOST by USPS and UPS.... how the hell do you LOSE that many packages!?!?)
 
These delivery confirm labels have worked fine for me. Just used one on Saturday. The postal lady actually scanned it in and then refunded the 40-cents. She told me it is the only way I can track when the package is sent out. They had never done that before. Anyway.. still free and still working.

the service clerk didn't seem to have a single clue about the Free DC so I ended up paying the stupid 40 cents for it.

guess i'll bring some documentation in next time I'm going in.

Bring the bottom half of the printout with you when you go and have the clerk read the pertinent part where it says " * There is no fee for Delivery Confirmation on Priority Mail with the use of this electronic option shipping label. Regular Priority Mail postage rates apply. Delivery information is not available by phone for the electronic option."

It should be clear to them then. I have had this trouble too but most clerks I've run into are familiar with it now.

The postal workers aren't supposed to scan it in.

Here's the differences between online (FREE) Delivery Confirmation, and Regular.

The Free one isn't supposed to have an actual time that the clerk scans in the confirmation.

The Regular confirmation (Green Form) is scanned in, so you and the other person can see
confirm that you actually did ship the package out, and they scan it again when it's delivered.
