i'm sorry...but I thought that if maybe I just bumped this thread...ppl wouldn't get on here and be all "REPOST" in my face and crap. I know I TOTALLY shouldn't take that crap personally...and it's probably some sort of immaturatity or somehow my parents fault, but it just irritates me when ppl don't appreciate a deal...JUST B/C it's REPOSTED...
However, On the OTHER hand, I can see how that would get annoying (esp. w/ this one b/c it's good and probably gets posted everyweek), when someone posts it like EVERY week w/o searching to see if someone else did it already :)
SO, from now on, I'm going to bump this thread...maybe even ONCE/WEEK! b/c I feel that whoever can USE it...SHOULD...that or I'll just say REPOST myself in the thread and only ppl who are unaware of it will enter and find out about it :)

I REALLY REALLY appreciate this deal as it's saved me TONS of CA$H! :) THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH! :D
I hope that Uall forgive me for my impatience and immature comments :)

im not to fond of using DC anymore... I dont see a point in using it~ the reason being just like somebody else mentioned they never scan the package when it arrives.. so what good is that? 40cents or FREE id rather not deal with the hassle because usps's delivery confirmation is bogus...

5000 packages shipped within the last 6 months, scan failure rate is less than 0.001% for me.

Your postmaster is incorrect. If it had been changed, the page at the web site would have been removed and the Shipping Assistant would no longer work.

Page 10 of Postal Bulletin 22061 has instructions for accepting the no-charge e/Confirmations at the window. Ask your post master if he has a citation for a USPS publication for the supposed change. If you don't get a straight answer from him, call 1-800-ASK-USPS and ask for assistance.

As far as failure to scan on delivery is concerned, I've only had one item that was not scanned on delivery -- to Lands End in December when they probably got hundreds of returned items a day. If your success rate with the e/Confirmations is less than 95%, you should look to your printing and avoid taping over the barcode.

It is absolutlely free. I printed one out last week, taped it onto the package and headed for the post office. The package does not need to be scanned at the post office. I just checked USPS Delivery and Confirmation page a few minutes ago, punched in the numbers from the printout, and it gave me all the details of the delivery and the time and place the customer received it.

:)

I didn't have any problems with this either. Package location/details were updated a day after I dropped it off at the post office.

my postal people must be dumb :)
i've used this about a dozen times and they've always scanned it when i dropped my packages off. they used some wireless reader and not that wired laser pen looking thing. its showed up every time in the system just like regular DC as, "your packaged was accepted at 12:00 at blah blah blah....." and then is updated on delivery.

«they used some wireless reader ...»

That's a delivery carrier's scanner. A pickup scan with that device will generate a true ACCEPTANCE record in the data base but it is not supposed to be used at a retail window. Someone in your post office probably decided to do it anyway. Don't be surprised if they are told to stop doing that.

Still free, still works, and about 90+ percent of the time, the delivering postman/woman does the scan at delivery.

All these 40 cent savings over the last year have added up to a good chunk of $$$

Just got back from the P.O. The postal worker scanned it in at drop off. Thanks for the (re)post.

Used this dozens of times every month. Works every time (so far)

Its free...so its *NOT* tracking like the green .40c tag is.

The green tag, gets scanned at delivery, and you can check progress during shipping as it gets scanned throughout the system.

This FREE service, is more delivery confirmation, only gets scanned *after* the item is delivered, and updated a few days after, in their system.

Choose which you need more, and dont whine about how a *free* service works, use it, or not, your choice.

«Its free...so its *NOT* tracking like the green .40c tag is.»

e/Confirmation service is exactly the same as the retail delivery confirmation service -- and neither one is tracking. Only Express Mail deliveries are tracked. Other types of mail in transit may be scanned as they arrive at sorting facilities but that is a hit or miss proposition for all DCs. Only the delivery is guaranteed to be recorded.

e/Confirmations are not scanned if you mail the package at a service window (although they can be scanned by your delivery carrier if he collects the package from your door) so you may want to get the clerks to roundstamp the receipt.

FYI: The Postal Service has a free software package called the USPS Shipping Assistant that you can use to generate discounted confirmations (12¢) for other classes of mail and Signature Confirmations too ($1.25 instead of $1.75).
