I think someone with a VERY HUGE credit limit should buy one of the $99,999 items. Let's see if this online company will automatically cancel the order due to a "price error". They sure are ready to cancel when they lose money but I don't know if they would cancel when making money...

Uh oh, my invoice shows 2 order #s. Maybe they will just cancel the 2nd one, which is the DVD player. Oh well, I can still use that ink cart anyways, so it was worth a shot.

Well, I got a confirmation email showing delivery dates for each of the two order #s. The ink cart on the 5th and the DVD player on the 8th. It might just come in! Thanks OP!

saw this on another site, guess they are substituting some orders
I placed my order (had to fax since it wouldn't let me checkout). I received my fax confirmation with a substituted item (a b/w tv, 5", with an am/fm radio). Kinda disappointing not to get the dvd player but at least I got the free tv!....AND, I'm already a regular customer of theirs!!

thats a confirmation at least. my confirmation says dvd player. I cant imagine they would substitute without notification.

The function you requested is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in a few minutes.

Oh well I could have used a dvd player

I'll be pretty pissed if I get a crappy 5" B&W tv. I ordered bubble wrap and a freakin $16 AC adapter for a scale (by mistake). LOL, so if I don't get the dvd player it's going to be like paying ~$40 for bubble wrap.

Just tried the dvdplayer today. On the surface, it looks like quite a versatile player. When I saw that it was able to play DVD-AUdio, i said to myself in disbelief, no friggin way!!! It just seemed all too good to be true. And it was..

To make things short, i think i just paid 30 bux for a big black paperweight and a surge protector.

NOTHING works on this thing. Tried Gladiator, it doesnt even get past the Dreamworks intro logo before the player starts glitching up and freezes. After about 30 seconds of freezing and serious video glitching onscreen, it gives up and resets the dvd and tries again only to fail miserably. I tried an SVCD and a DVD-R movie with identical results. If I'm lucky, I can make it onto the DVD menu.

The video glitches and freezing occur even while playing an mp3 for more than 20 seconds. Not only that, i popped in an audio cd (not-burned), and the player freezes up right away and cant even load up the first track.

Now i know why Apex discontinued this model. These units should have been recalled long ago. This dud must be the black sheep of their line.

I hesitated to get in on this order, but then decided to go for it, thinking that there's no way i can lose. I was under the false assumption that even though i knew it would be a crappy player, that atleast it would work. Boy, was i wrong.

EDIT: BTW, the dvd player that they sent me was the AD-7701, not the AD-1165 that is on their site. Apparently, this is the classic case of the ole' bait and switch (which is illegal?). It said in their site:

"Hurry...quantities are limited. If depleted, an equal or better gift will be sent. This special offer (made only to you) is not to be combined with other premium or coupon offers."

Assuming that the AD-1165 does work at all, I seriously doubt that the AD-7701 would count as an "equal or better gift"

I don't know that much about the APex units, but some of them, I think, use a semi-standard PC DVD-ROM drive. Is it possible that perhaps the drive is either damaged (due to transport), or perhaps just of extremely poor quality (probably made in China, at those prices). Could you replace it with a different DVD-ROM drive possibly, and otherwise keep the features of the electronics part of it?

It does sound fairly feature-rich, possibly worthwhile to salvage with new drive, if that's even possible.

mine works fine. I used the crappiest burn media possible. i'll have to bust out some "non-backup" media and try it again.

then again with an amw home theater,ps2,xbox, i am not quite sure why i need another dvd player yet...
