Why not just use skydrive? It's what I use and it works great, is like 25 or 50 gigs and has NO hoops you have to jump through.

SkyDrive is 25GB free storage, but it won't work for people with large files, there's a 50MB filesize limit. Of course the way around that is using a file splitter.

Amazon has no reason to monitor user's storage for anything illegal and turn them in, is a waste of their time and money. I doubt anything people store on their servers is encrypted, though, so if a court ordered them to provide access to a user's storage as part of an investigation I'm sure they could easily comply. If privacy is a concern I'm sure there are much better online backup solutions out there.

Anyway, been using the cloud player some and it's not bad. Steaming quality seems pretty low, though, anyone know what bitrate they use? It seems really low, like 32kbps or something. Would be perfect if they maybe bumped the quality up a bit.

Amazon isn't touching your MP3s so if you have 192kbps then it is delivering 192kbps.

All the cloud player does is download the files on the fly to play them.

You may be right. I don't know if the sound quality is worse, I guess it's just different because playing from Firefox doesn't have the same equalizer tweaks I have in Winamp. And it seemed like music buffered faster than I could download the songs at the original bitrate, but comparing them more closely that might not be the case.

The amazon mp3 app for android lets you stream mp3, no idea about other file types (haven't looked hard, but don't see any obvious way to access other types) or other devices.

Sounds OK, but stupid me I read through the agreement and it creeps me.

Basically just saying that if you're paying for 50GB of storage, for example, it will automatically renew every year unless you cancel the service. And prices/plans can change, in which case its the customer's responsibility to cancel their service before it renews or else they will be automatically switched over to the plan closest to what they currently have. Those are kind of a "no duh" things, but of course they have to explicitly state them in the agreement.

If you're worried about the free 20GB trial plan auto-renewing on you and getting charged, though, don't.

If you qualify for this offer and either have not signed up for Amazon Cloud Drive or have the 5GB Amazon Cloud Drive plan, you will be automatically eligible for the 20 GB plan for one year from the date of your MP3 album purchase. Unless you set your account to auto-renew to a paid plan, the 20 GB plan will revert to a free plan one year from the date of your MP3 album purchase.
