Freddie Mac Paid McCain's campaign manager lobby firm 30k per month.

Ok, can someone explain to me what the big deal is?

Freddie Mac paid McCain's campaign manager's former employer. How does that implicate John McCain? Or even his campaign manager? I've worked for a lot of companies-- does that mean if Freddie Mac ever paid any of those companies (even when I wasn't still employed there) that it means I was in Freddie Mac's pockets?

the big deal is that McCain (knowingly or not) lied about it... and considering the firm's name has McCain's campaign manager's name on the door (Davis Manafort), I'd say he's more than a random employee.

but it's stupid that we demonize lobbyists and turn them into boogeymen.

Also you forgot McCain is the one running around saying he will get rid of these lobbysit and clean up DC. Yet his team is being run and headed by these same people.

The big deal is that its a shame that these Freddie Mac execs paid 1.8 million to just one lobbyist to gain political favor. Lobbyist in turn "lobbies" that favor to get beneficial votes by various members of house and senate. This is how washington works, and it SUCKS. Now we are bailing them out, becasue they have no money... This isnt specifically a McCain issue- its a washington issue, and an American issue. If you cant see the problem with that, then you are lost... Badly.

The fact that McCain's whole circle of friends and campaign advisors are all lobbyists doesnt speak well for his intentions, or motvations - but its not specifically a MCCain issue.

Davis lied.

whether or not McCain knew, I think, is debatable.

No it isn't. These people exist solely to engage in legal thievery from the american taxpayer. There is no merit in that, and lobbyists are paid to advance their clients interests ahead of what is best for the country.

Their bad reputation is well deserved. I've sat next to many a lobbyist on business trips and overheard their phone conversations.

McCain insisted the NYTIMES claim was untrue. That's a lie.

And, if he didn't know, maybe he should know what his left hand is doing? Davis and Schmidt are his top guys for the sake of yaweh...

If we concede that money buys power in Washington, then we also concede that as wealth accumulates in the few power brokers and rich at the top of the structure, the average working and middle class American will continue to have their influence on their government eroded. I believe most Americans already believe that the government doesn't work for them, but what does it take to push them over the edge and for them to start demanding their country be returned?

repost.

also, lobbyists are people too.

and they are "good people" according to McCain.

No they are paid puppets.

I was actually pretty good friends with a guy in Atlanta until I found out he was a lobbyist.

When he started telling me the crap he pulled and did I quickly distanced myself from him.

What person hasn't lied, not to mention what person that we have voted for hasn't lied?

It sucks, but people are blowing this out of proportion, look at every canidates claims before and after his term is over, most go opposite directions.

Let's be fair... Obama was number 2 on the amount of donations from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while he was in the senate.

This list of full of dems and republicans.

Let's be fair, the vast majority comes from individuals, voters. Considering that he's raking in such huge amounts from individuals, is it surprising that he's got a lot from that area?

if you look at PAC numbers, it's not the same story.

McCain is a tool and a hypocrite. He blasts deregulation, but Phil Gramm, the king of deregulation, is his chief advisor. He blasts lobbyists, but employs ones from the GSEs, not to mention the ones that handed the Airforce Tanker competition to EDS.

what about the people/groups who lobby to represent your interests?

I'm sure microsoft employees don't mind microsoft's lobbyists... I'm pretty happy that gay rights and environmental lobbyists exist, old people would probably say the same about AARP.

HE was paid? or the firm was paid?

Please post the link where is says the Davis himself (not the firm) received money.

regardless of who or what it is for- If they are getting paid millions of dollars to buy "gifts" and make other campaign contributions to get favorable votes from Senators and Congressman for their companies (or causes) it should be made illegal. McCain not only agrees with this process, but fully embraces it. Obama wants to make it stop entirely.

Sorry, Obama majorly wins this one.

Davis owns the firm. If you owned a company, and someone paid your company $15,000/month, would you benefit from it? Of course you would.

This story is BIG. McCain has been caught in a major lie; either that or Rick Davis lied to him. Either way, Davis will probably resign from the campaign over this.

Davis also said he "had a severed leave of absence" from his lobbying and consulting firm, and "I've taken no compensation from my firm for 18 months." (A campaign spokesman said that Davis receives no partnership distribution under his arrangement).

Actually, allegedly his arrangement doesn't call for a distribution, but don't let that get in the way of a good rant.
