Oz was entertaining enough, but hardly realistic. I know prison is a nasty place but they seemed to have weekly murders on that show. No American prison is THAT violent.

Well if it was 2 on 1 and they were trying to rape you, killing one while disabling the other is self defense but who are they going to believe? Everyone is a violent criminal. Just because you took 2 out does not mean you have a case. Death row seems like a stretch, what you don't even get a trial for killing someone in prison?

When I was a teenager I had a neighbor who spent 10 years in state prison on a manslaughter conviction. He did small engine repair out of his garage and I used to go watch him work on engines and build stuff. According to him he got in a fight which he didn't start and ended up killing his attacker. He was 18 when he went in. His original sentence was 15 years but he was let out early for "good behavior". By the time I knew him he was in his 60s.

This guy had some crazy ass stories and for me at the time at 12-13 years old listening to this guy basically made me decide then and there that I would never put myself in any position where the consequence was prison time. No fucking way. A lot of his stories are echoed in the link above, it's all basically the same stuff, it happens over and over again.

I was by no means a trouble maker kid, in fact I was always a good student and stayed out of trouble and have never had any legal troubles but this guy pretty much reinforced the idea that going to prison for almost any amount of time pretty much fucks your life for good, not to mention it destroys your mental health and most of your sanity. Oh, and it pretty much ruined this guy's life. When he got out he couldn't: 1) Get a job, 2) Rent a place to live, 3) Own a gun and 4) Have any real social life because people were scared to death of him.

Ahh no its not. Rape has been used as a tool for all of human time.
The US prisoneers have a lot of rights that many others countries do not afford. As such more complaints get out and listened to. Let alone we lock up a LOT of people.

When I was in my early teens, I was always getting into trouble, sometimes even with the law. My mom was raising me by herself and could not control me anymore. Then one day one of my uncle's friends took me aside and had a talk with me. He basically told me what happens to weak little kids in prison and juvy. That you get buttfucked and if you resist, they knock out all your front teeth - so you cant hurt them when they stick their dick in your mouth.

That talk straightened me out. The fact that I still remember it 15 years later shows how powerful words can be.

My old roommate spent 2 years in a state prison and he basically said it is pretty fucking bad. He is a tattoo artist and kind of a big biker dude so he was covered. Real criminals don't have too much of a problem because they have enough gang/criminal associates to cover for them. The people who get raped and turned to bitches are the average joe's who get locked up with absolutely no protection. He said for the most part it is mostly beating them senseless in state penn's as it isn't people in for life and not getting conjugals. County jail being even lighter.

He said that people will do some fucking ridiculous shit to stay safe. Basically if they think you are fucking insane or diseased they will keep away. One dude on the first day ate his own shit and kept yelling he'd give everyone hep C if they got near him. Apparently it worked.

- The much greater risk of transmission is to the "bitch", due to anal tearing.
- Hep C is pretty common in prison environments, so you'd need to worry about that too.
- A lot of them absolutely won't care if they already have it.
