The one girl in between the two red hat guys looks like she is "not sure if serious"
It sorta made me laugh.

Isn't this kind of admitting that there might be a problem with workplace conditions and morale? Jeeze. Hey employees, instead of giving you raises and more time off, I'm just going to put suicide nets up so you don't smash your head against the ground and die!

Typical Anti-Asian sentiments from you. Shrug. BTW, Foxconn is a Taiwanese company that's operating a factory in mainland China. So what? How is this any different from Nike paying sub par wages? The fact that 400,000 Chinese are willing to work here says something. But seriously, what's stopping them from quitting? Asian countries like Japan and China already have a problem with suicides. It has to do with culture. If I don't like my job in the US I'll quit.

But why don't we hear about worker suicides from Nike/Adidas/insert company name here in the news?

So they increased wages, installed suicide nets, and hold morale rallies. Sounds like they did everything but actually improve the horrible working conditions that actually drove the workers to suicide in the first place.

That would cost money.

While I dislike relying on anti-suicide measures like these that don't address the root issues, suicide nets aren't particularly unique to Foxconn. Any organization hoping to combat suicides will logically consider the use of physical barriers. The suicide nets were approved for the Golden Gate bridge, and just last semester my school put up ugly fences on all of our bridges after a rash of suicides.

I recommend chaining the employees directly to their work benches as a more effective suicide prevention measure.

Excuse me, some of them like to be called Taiwanese? And not Chinese? But then again, China is China..

Well... if they're motive is to reap life insurance benefits for their families, they'd probably do it elsewhere where a free fall would be sure of taking their life. If life just flat out sucks for them, at least they should know that Foxconn makes pretty good products, which means they're doing their job.
Just not a good job with choosing happiness, if that even is a choice anymore for them at all for the FC employees.

heh I have a Foxconn mobo, it was like 40 bucks, has built in video and sound, and has been rock solid in my 2nd PC for like 3 years.
