Foxconn Technology Group — the Taiwanese company that manufactures hardware for Apple, Dell, HP, Nokia and Sony and has been hit by a dozen suicides at its plants this year — is holding rallies at all of its factories to raise morale. The theme? “Treasure Your Life, Love Your Family, Care for Each Other to Build a Wonderful Future.” The impact so far? Check out the picture above.

In case the rallies, slogans and pay increases don’t raise morale enough to stem the tide of suicides, Foxconn plans to install a new amenity at its facilities: suicide prevention nets designed to catch falling workers before they hit the ground.

Note to self. Don't take a job at a factory that needs suicide nets.

I'm confused. I did a ctrl-F and can't actually find this text in the article:

Which makes sense to me, because I thought I remembered reading about those nets a while ago, and the article just says they've left some in place while removing them from one plant.

Edit: Looks like the article was updated after you copied it

Meh...rather than actually improve working conditions...install suicide nets to catch some of the ones driven to suicide.

Sounds typical for the Chinese.

Did you just intentionally misrepresent what the article said?

Absolutely NOT. Go to the link and look at the third paragraph.

Huh. One word is now different. Instead of the very last word being "plant" the article now says "facility". Since I copied and pasted, they must have modified that word on the site since I copied it.
Doesn't change anything, though.

Though I did notice an Update at the bottom of the article:

Update: AP Shenzhen reported on the Taipei Times today that these nets had been put in place, but they were installed earlier this year. After the rallies, Foxconn left them up at all of its factories except for its Taiyuan Campus location, said Woo in his phone statement, because more employees there have the support of their friends and family. The nets remain in place at the other facilities

wow, foxconn really sounds like one of the vilest large companies around. to meet the minimum pay recommended by a CHINESE labor union they had to DOUBLE the pay.

what the ffff. that's mindblowing. now they're just paying the minimum they can get by with.

I wonder if they include it as part of the benefits package? They care about their employees!

How do they know the person who the net didnt save was trying to commit suicide?

Maybe they were just trying to break up the boredom of putting 10,000 PCI slots/day on motherboards?

So basically the net is what killed the worker.

A free ride when you already paid?

What the article didn't tell you is that the nets actually funnel the workers down to a processing plant, where they are processed into iSoylent, a delicious and nutritious new snack food.

I'd probably kill myself if I lived in China and had to work at foxconn too.

I don't work at Foxconn but I've thought about hanging myself from the rafters at work some days. :D

I'd hit at least two of the girls in that picture.
Girl in the middle and the second one from the right. The one in the middle, very front row with her head chopped off has sexy eyes. :sneaky:

The chick on the left (in pink) looks like she just got out of bed.

So basically, Foxconn is so cruel they are trying to prevent even that form of escape?

I'm pretty sure there are more ways than falling to accomplish this.
